About the role
You will define and drive the technical vision for Enterprise Engineering at Roku, shaping the architecture of our custom applications, integrations, and enterprise data platforms. You will lead the design and delivery of AI and agentic capabilities that make our internal systems intelligent and autonomous. You will own the productivity platforms and workflows that determine how thousands of employees operate on a daily basis. You will establish the engineering standards, security practices, and quality benchmarks that ensure our software is robust, scalable, and reliable. You will partner with executive leadership to align the engineering strategy with the company's mission to connect the entire TV ecosystem.

What you'll do
Architect and lead the development of Roku's custom enterprise applications, defining clear boundaries and resilient interfaces that enable seamless operation.
Design and implement integrations across internal and external systems, enabling secure and reliable data flow that supports business and product initiatives.
Own the architecture and roadmap for enterprise data platforms, ensuring data quality, accessibility, and performance for analytics and decision-making.
Lead the implementation of AI and agentic capabilities, embedding intelligent workflows and automation into the tools that power our organization.
Define and drive the standards, frameworks, and best practices that govern how enterprise software is built, deployed, and maintained.
Partner with Product Management and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions that are scalable and maintainable.
Establish the productivity platforms and tooling that streamline how teams collaborate, measure progress, and deliver value efficiently.
Champion engineering excellence by enforcing rigorous code reviews, testing strategies, and deployment pipelines that uphold security and reliability.
Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, elevating engineering standards and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders to ensure all systems and processes meet enterprise requirements and industry regulations.
Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their applicability to Roku's enterprise needs, driving innovation while managing technical risk.
Communicate technical strategy and progress to executive stakeholders, aligning engineering outcomes with company goals and priorities.
Enable distributed teams by building tools and processes that abstract complexity and provide clear, consistent developer experiences.
Oversee the delivery of critical software initiatives, ensuring timelines are met, dependencies are managed, and outcomes are measurable.
Requirements
8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering complex systems.
5+ years of leadership experience managing and mentoring engineering teams in a professional setting.
Demonstrated expertise in designing and operating large-scale, distributed software systems.
Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript, with the ability to write high-quality, maintainable code.
Deep understanding of software architecture patterns, API design, and integration strategies across heterogeneous environments.
Experience building and operating data platforms or data-intensive applications, including knowledge of storage, processing, and querying patterns.
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, infrastructure, and automation practices relevant to enterprise software delivery.
Proven ability to collaborate with security, compliance, and product teams to implement controls and meet governance requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across organizations.
Comfortable making technical tradeoffs in ambiguous situations while balancing speed, quality, and risk.
A track record of identifying problems and implementing solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
Willingness to engage with technical details while also thinking strategically about long-term platform direction.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance engineering culture.
Nice to have
Experience with AI and machine learning platforms, including model integration, prompt engineering, and observability for AI workloads.
Background building internal developer platforms or tooling for software engineering organizations.
Experience with streaming data technologies and event-driven architectures.
Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Prior experience in consumer streaming or media technology is a plus.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in our San Jose, California office.
Travel may be required for team meetings, stakeholder reviews, or company events.
Employment eligibility to work in the United States is required.
