What you'll do

• Provide expert legal advice on content licensing agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts related to content acquisition, distribution, and partnerships.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including product development and marketing, to address legal issues and mitigate risks associated with new initiatives.
• Advise on intellectual property matters, including copyright and trademark issues, to protect Roku's assets and brand integrity.
• Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact Roku's business, particularly in the areas of media and technology.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making processes across the organization.
• Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures related to legal compliance and risk management.
• Provide training and guidance to employees on legal issues, fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel and consultants as needed to ensure effective legal support for various projects.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to assess and address legal risks associated with new business ventures and product launches.
• Support the company's corporate governance initiatives, including compliance with SEC regulations and other reporting requirements.
• Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Legal & Business Affairs team, identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with a focus on media, entertainment, or technology law.
• Proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex contracts, particularly in the content licensing space.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property law, including copyright and trademark issues.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide practical legal solutions.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience in-house at a media or technology company, particularly in the streaming sector.
• Familiarity with data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA.
• Knowledge of advertising and marketing law as it pertains to digital media.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in contract management software and legal research tools.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools is a plus.
