About the role

Robinhood is hiring a Software Engineer for its Wallet team based in Toronto, Canada. What you'll do

Design and implement wallet-related services that manage user holdings, digital asset transfers, and balance tracking across multiple chains.

Build reliable transaction pipelines that process deposits, withdrawals, and internal transfers securely with proper validation and error handling.

Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure all wallet operations behave correctly under various conditions.

Collaborate with product managers and designers to define wallet feature requirements, user flows, and acceptance criteria for new functionality.

Participate in thorough code reviews to maintain code quality standards and share technical knowledge across the entire engineering team.

Monitor wallet system health continuously and respond promptly to incidents that affect user funds or transaction integrity.

Optimize wallet service performance to handle growing volumes of digital asset transactions efficiently without compromising reliability.

Document wallet architecture decisions, public APIs, and operational procedures clearly for both current and future team members.

Work with security-focused engineering practices to protect user assets and prevent unauthorized access to wallet systems.

Contribute to infrastructure improvements and platform enhancements that support long-term scalability, reliability, and performance of wallet services.

Requirements

Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and the ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested production code consistently.

Experience building distributed systems or financial services applications that handle sensitive user data with high reliability requirements.

Solid familiarity with cryptocurrency and blockchain concepts, including how wallet infrastructure and digital asset custody operate.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, iterative environment while managing competing priorities and shifting requirements.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and engineering peers regularly.

Comfortable with diagnosing and debugging complex issues in production systems under tight time constraints and pressure.

Self-directed learner who can explore new technical domains and emerging technologies independently with minimal supervision.

Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent practical experience building software products in a professional setting.

Nice to have

Prior experience working on teams that build financial or transaction-focused software products in a regulated industry environment.

Background in security engineering or infrastructure with a demonstrated interest in financial technology and digital assets.

Exposure to containerization technologies and service deployment practices in a cloud-based production environment.

Familiarity with regulatory compliance, audit processes, or internal controls relevant to the financial technology sector.

Skills & tools

Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language commonly used for backend and infrastructure development tasks.

Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs for reliable backend service communication at scale.

Working knowledge of relational databases and hands-on experience with NoSQL data stores for transaction processing.

Understanding of version control workflows and collaborative software development practices using modern tooling.

Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools for tracking application performance and system health.

Awareness of security best practices including encryption, authentication, authorization, access control, and secure coding methods.
