Robinhood is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to join the Wallet team and help shape the future of digital asset management on mobile. This role focuses on building and improving the Android application that powers Robinhood's cryptocurrency and digital wallet features, serving millions of users who rely on the platform for buying, selling, and storing digital currencies. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver high-quality mobile experiences. You will take ownership of key components of the wallet Android app and contribute to architectural decisions that shape the product roadmap for years to come. This is a hands-on engineering position where you will write production code and drive technical direction within the team.

What you'll do

Design and implement new features for the Robinhood Wallet Android application, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience.

Write clean, maintainable Kotlin and Java code for the mobile wallet product, following established coding standards and best practices.

Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate wallet APIs and payment services, enabling secure transactions and real-time balance updates.

Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, and adherence to team conventions across the entire codebase.

Debug and resolve issues related to wallet transactions, balances, transfers, and other core financial operations on Android devices.

Contribute to the architecture of the Android app, promoting modular, testable, and scalable design patterns throughout the project.

Work with product managers to define technical requirements, prioritize features, and create implementation plans for upcoming releases.

Mentor junior and mid-level Android engineers through code reviews, pair programming sessions, and technical guidance during daily work.

Build and maintain automated unit and integration tests to ensure the reliability and correctness of wallet functionality over time.

Optimize the app for performance, stability, and user experience, profiling and addressing bottlenecks in the Android application.

Stay current with the latest Android platform developments and evaluate new tools, libraries, and approaches for team adoption.

Coordinate with QA and design teams to ensure features meet quality standards and align with the product vision.

Requirements

Proven experience developing Android applications using Kotlin and Java, with a strong portfolio of shipped mobile products.

Strong understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack components, and modern Android architecture patterns including MVVM and MVP.

Experience working with RESTful APIs and integrating backend services into mobile applications using standard networking libraries.

Familiarity with cryptocurrency or financial technology products, understanding the unique requirements of digital asset management platforms.

Ability to work collaboratively in an agile development environment, participating in sprint planning and daily standups.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing complex issues in a distributed system.

Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-team collaboration, technical documentation, and design discussions.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in software development.

Experience with Android testing frameworks and continuous integration workflows to maintain high code quality standards.

Nice to have

Experience with Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for asynchronous programming, managing complex concurrency patterns on Android.

Knowledge of dependency injection frameworks such as Dagger or Hilt, applying them to reduce coupling in large codebases.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and mobile testing frameworks like Espresso or Robolectric for automated quality assurance.

Experience with security best practices for handling sensitive financial data, including encryption and secure storage on mobile.

Practical notes

This role is based in Menlo Park, CA or New York, NY with a hybrid work model and regular in-office presence expected throughout the week.

The Wallet team operates within Robinhood's broader mobile engineering organization, collaborating with other product teams on shared infrastructure and platform capabilities.

Candidates should be prepared to participate in on-call rotations for production support, responding to incidents and ensuring the stability of wallet services.
