About the role
The Trade PMR team manages the custodial and trading infrastructure for investment advisors. We are seeking a technical leader to evolve our Fusion platform and integrate it into the broader Robinhood ecosystem while supporting Dual Custody initiatives. In this capacity, you will own the full lifecycle of high-impact backend services, driving technical decisions that directly impact the reliability and scalability of advisor platforms. You will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex regulatory requirements into resilient software architectures. This role requires a hands-on leader who mentors engineers while maintaining a strategic focus on product evolution. You will be responsible for ensuring that our systems meet stringent performance, security, and availability standards. Your work will directly support the growth of larger advisors and enable critical initiatives such as Dual Custody. Ultimately, you will shape the future of our trading infrastructure within the broader Robinhood technology organization.

What you'll do
- Architect distributed backend solutions using .NET and AWS to support the evolving needs of the Trade PMR platform.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable services that ensure high availability and performance for advisor-facing systems.
- Direct the technical roadmap for platform integrations, aligning engineering efforts with strategic business objectives in the RIA sector.
- Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership across the organization.
- Maintain and evolve the core Fusion software, identifying opportunities for optimization and reliability improvements.
- Partner with legal, compliance, and product teams to translate regulatory constraints into robust backend infrastructure.
- Drive the development of Dual Custody infrastructure, ensuring it meets the needs of both current and larger advisory clients.
- De-risk complex technical blockers in zero-to-one product environments, navigating ambiguity to deliver reliable solutions.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for critical initiatives, providing guidance and leadership to senior engineers.
- Leverage domain modeling and microservices principles to build resilient and maintainable API-driven systems.
- Optimize data pipelines to handle increased transaction volume while maintaining strict security and performance standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure engineering deliverables support broader industry strategy and growth initiatives.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on backend systems and distributed architectures.
- Mastery of designing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency distributed infrastructure using .NET and cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Deep expertise in domain modeling, microservices, and reliable API development to support complex business workflows.
- Proven experience in zero-to-one product environments, demonstrating the ability to navigate technical ambiguity and de-risk complex challenges.
- Experience serving as a primary technical point of contact while mentoring and guiding senior engineers through technical decisions.
- Strong communication skills to interpret legal and regulatory constraints and translate them into secure and scalable backend infrastructure.
- A track record of delivering high-availability systems that meet stringent performance, security, and compliance requirements.
- Comfort working in fast-paced, dynamic environments where priorities evolve based on business and regulatory needs.
Nice to have
- Background in the RIA or Wealth Management industry, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by investment advisors.
- Experience scaling B2B platforms, managing post-acquisition integrations, or building Dual Custody infrastructure in financial services.
- Familiarity with GraphQL or React, which can enhance the capabilities of backend services and improve developer ergonomics.
Practical notes
Base pay for Zone 1 (New York, NY; Menlo Park, CA; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC) is $230,000 to $270,000. Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL) is $203,000 to $238,000. Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL) is $180,000 to $211,000. Total compensation includes bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits such as 100% paid health insurance for employees, 401(k) matching, lifestyle wallet, and life/disability insurance.
