Engineering Manager, Financial Platform
Job description
.
About the role
You will define and drive the technical strategy for the Product Ledger team, owning the end-to-end delivery of a correctness-critical, audit-ready double-entry ledger service. You will partner daily with Accounting, Product, and Compliance to ensure financial state integrity across all Ripple products. You will lead a focused engineering team, motivating by example and fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. You will create a shared vision and build strong partnerships across Security, Research, Customer Success, and Business Development to align technology with business goals. You will own the full software development lifecycle for your team, from ideation and roadmap definition through implementation, testing, and deployment. You will deliver outstanding results for customers while maintaining the highest standards of reliability, performance, and compliance. You will balance short-term execution with long-term architectural thinking to build scalable solutions that support new business lines.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Think strategically while balancing both short-term execution and long-term architectural sustainability.
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering team by motivating engineers and leading through technical example.
- Deliver outstanding results for customers and act as a role model for engineering excellence and ownership.
- Create a shared vision and build and maintain strong partnerships with Product Management, Operations, Security, Research, Customer Success, and Business Development teams.
- Own and drive the full software development process for your team, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Own and deliver your roadmap, aligning priorities with business objectives and ensuring timely execution.
- Design, build, and operate a double-entry ledger or core accounting/financial system with deep expertise in journals, debits, credits, chart of accounts, balance derivation, and reversals.
- Ensure correctness-critical, high-throughput transactional systems exhibit strong idempotency design, concurrency control, and balance-integrity guarantees under concurrent writes.
- Partner closely with stakeholders responsible for revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, GL mapping, reconciliation, and ERP integration, such as Oracle.
- Design event-driven systems that translate business events into balanced, auditable postings, including simulation and dry-run tooling for onboarding new event types.
- Operate comfortably in a regulated, audit-sensitive environment with immutable/append-only records, traceability requirements, and compliance obligations.
- Leverage databases at scale and evaluate NoSQL data modeling approaches, such as DynamoDB, for future migration paths and scalability.
- Apply bias toward action, sound judgment under ambiguity, and success in recruiting, growing, and retaining strong engineers.
- Foster an environment where engineers can innovate, improve processes, and challenge the status constructively.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate crypto custody capabilities and multi-network asset movement, including wallets, blockchain networks, and exchanges, given the ledger's asset and network balancing model.
- Define technical roadmaps that span multiple product verticals, enabling onboarding of additional service areas onto a shared platform rather than optimizing for a single product surface.
- Ensure systems are audit-ready and support Oracle integration, maintaining traceability and safeguarding obligations in all deliverables.
- Build simulation and tooling that allows the team to dry-run new event types and validate balancing behavior before production deployment.
- Represent the Product Ledger team in cross-company discussions, ensuring alignment between technology capabilities and enterprise needs.
Requirements
- 5+ years leading impactful engineering teams, with experience managing teams of 8 or more engineers.
- Hands-on experience in Java with Spring, and comfort reviewing and contributing to backend service code.
- Direct experience building or operating a double-entry ledger or core accounting and financial systems.
- Track record of designing and operating correctness-critical, high-throughput transactional systems.
- Strong understanding of idempotency design, concurrency control, and balance-integrity guarantees in concurrent write environments.
- Experience partnering with teams responsible for revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, general ledger mapping, reconciliation, and ERP integrations.
- Strong grasp of database scalability patterns and familiarity with NoSQL data modeling for large-scale systems.
- Experience designing event-driven architectures that enforce balanced and auditable business event postings.
- Comfort operating in regulated, audit-sensitive environments with strict immutability, traceability, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to define and own technical roadmaps across multiple product lines and onboard new services onto shared platforms.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, growing, and leading diverse engineering teams through ambiguity and change.
- Bias for action, strong judgment, and resilience in environments with high uncertainty and competing priorities.
- Experience with financial systems, accounting principles, and reconciliation processes is essential.
- Understanding of ledger architectures that balance assets, networks, and currencies is required.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with crypto custody, multi-network asset movement, wallets, blockchain networks, and exchange integrations.
- Experience with Oracle integration and audit readiness in financial systems.
- Background in simulation and dry-run tooling for event-driven financial systems.
- Exposure to revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, and GL mapping processes.
- Experience with DevOps practices for highly regulated environments.
Practical notes
- Employment is based in New York, NY, requiring compliance with local work authorization and tax documentation.
- This role involves significant collaboration across finance, product, and engineering teams under strict regulatory constraints.
