The Project Accountant will play a vital role in managing the financial aspects of capital projects, ensuring all costs are accurately tracked and reported in compliance with accounting standards. This individual will work closely with various teams to provide financial insights, support audit processes, and help optimize project financial management. The role requires a detail-oriented professional who can handle complex financial data, maintain internal controls, and contribute to the company's strategic growth initiatives.

What you'll do
- Oversee the financial management of capital projects from initiation through completion, including project approval, cost tracking, and capitalization, ensuring all expenses related to labor, materials, and other costs are accurately recorded in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
- Perform detailed monthly and quarterly reconciliations of project sub-ledgers with the general ledger, promptly identifying and resolving any discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements and disclosures related to fixed assets, supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes, including audit preparations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls for project accounting activities to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and facilitate audit readiness.
- Review project approval requests to verify proper classification of expenses, ensuring that costs are appropriately capitalized or expensed based on accounting standards and internal policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of project accounting processes, including automation initiatives and the adoption of best practices.
- Conduct financial analysis and generate reports on project performance, providing management with insights into cost variances, investment returns, and potential risks or opportunities.
- Collaborate with procurement, operations, tax, and finance teams to align project accounting practices with overall business objectives and ensure consistency across departments.
- Support the development of project budgets and forecasts, monitoring ongoing costs and providing variance analysis to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Assist with audit processes by preparing documentation, supporting internal controls, and responding to auditor inquiries related to project costs and fixed assets.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management to support the finance team and broader organizational goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline; CPA certification or an advanced degree (e.g., Master's) is a plus.
- Between 1 and 3 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, preferably within a large corporate environment or multinational company.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with advanced Excel skills such as pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis tools.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, along with familiarity with cost accounting software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and communicate insights effectively to stakeholders at various levels.
- Attention to detail and high organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and internal control frameworks.
- Experience supporting audit processes and preparing documentation for external auditors.
