Redwood Materials is seeking a Commercial Operations Manager to oversee the daily functions of the Commercial Operations team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency across various areas such as supplier onboarding, logistics, purchasing, compliance, and reporting. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team, streamlining processes, and acting as a key liaison between different departments to support the company's mission of recycling and sustainable materials management. The role requires a combination of leadership, operational expertise, and hands-on involvement to help scale and optimize Redwood's commercial activities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience managing teams, working with supply chain and logistics, and a strong focus on data-driven decision making to support the company's growth and sustainability goals.

What you'll do
- Lead and mentor a team of five Commercial Operations Specialists, fostering a collaborative environment that emphasizes accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Manage daily operational tasks including supplier onboarding, purchase order processing, logistics coordination, and payment resolution, ensuring all activities are completed accurately and on time.
- Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials to promote operational consistency and efficiency across the team.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams such as Sales, Supply Chain, IT, and Finance to identify workflow bottlenecks, implement process improvements, and ensure seamless communication and data flow.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for suppliers and customers regarding onboarding, order management, logistics, and compliance issues, ensuring high levels of service and adherence to company standards.
- Maintain organized and accurate records across CRM, ERP, and internal systems to support data integrity, traceability, and reporting needs.
- Work with Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of purchase orders, invoices, and payments, resolving any discrepancies that may arise.
- Create and maintain operational dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), providing insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
- Identify opportunities for automation, system enhancements, and process improvements to increase operational scalability and reduce manual effort.
- Partner with product and data teams to define requirements for new reporting tools, dashboards, or system integrations that support operational needs.
- Use data analysis to generate insights, track trends, and support strategic planning efforts.
- Promote safety, compliance, and operational excellence across all activities, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and company policies.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency within the team.
- Support company sustainability initiatives by ensuring that operational practices align with Redwood's mission of promoting the circular economy.
- Assist in onboarding new team members and providing ongoing training to ensure team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Represent the Commercial Operations team in cross-departmental meetings, providing updates and insights on operational performance and challenges.
- Contribute to the development of budgets, forecasts, and resource planning to support team growth and operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations, including any specific requirements related to handling materials or hazardous substances.
- Maintain a proactive approach to problem-solving, addressing issues promptly and effectively to minimize disruptions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in commercial operations, sales operations, business planning, or logistics, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Proven experience managing and developing teams in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on operational excellence.
- Experience working within industries related to battery materials, metals, commodities, or recycling is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical skills, with proficiency in interpreting data and generating actionable insights.
- Familiarity with ERP and CRM systems; experience with Oracle, Hubspot, or similar platforms is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively across departments and with external partners.
