Redwood Materials is dedicated to creating a sustainable battery supply chain that prioritizes recovery, reuse, and recycling. We are in search of a committed Design Manager to become a vital part of our Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) team. This role entails overseeing design and engineering projects related to infrastructure and construction, guiding them from the initial concept stage all the way through to production.

What you'll do
- Establish clear project objectives by understanding stakeholder needs and effectively managing project scope in a dynamic environment.
- Lead Infrastructure and Tool Installation projects through all stages, including conceptualization, feasibility studies, funding acquisition, and the creation of design documentation.
- Supervise the permitting processes and manage construction documentation, including transmittals and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Work closely with site teams to efficiently handle incoming customer requests and requirements.
- Manage the project funding request process for significant infrastructure enhancements.
- Coordinate project timelines with Procurement and Construction teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule.
- Identify necessary resources and address any gaps or constraints encountered during various project phases, influencing teams beyond your direct supervision.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across different teams to ensure program alignment and collaboration.
- Develop and implement strategies for various project delivery methods, including design-bid-build and fast-track approaches.
- Utilize lean construction principles and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to facilitate integrated design processes.
- Introduce innovative engineering and design methodologies to meet demanding timelines and project goals.
- Conduct feasibility studies and perform value engineering analyses to optimize project outcomes.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering is required; a Master's degree is preferred but not essential.
- A Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license is desirable.
- At least 10 years of experience in the heavy commercial and industrial sectors, showcasing exceptional skills and capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary projects within Architecture/Engineering or Design Engineering firms.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities, with a knack for simplifying complex issues for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in designing manufacturing facilities and site infrastructure, including tool installations.
- A comprehensive understanding of all engineering disciplines and the capability to effectively manage engineering resources.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and regulatory jurisdictions, along with the ability to build strong partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Advanced project management skills, with a solid understanding of project and program management principles applicable to complex engineering challenges.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
- A proactive and enthusiastic demeanor, with a keen interest in manufacturing infrastructure.
- Capability to excel in high-pressure and ambiguous environments.

- Background in battery manufacturing or related industries.

Practical notes
This is a full-time position, and compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. The role is based in either McCarran, NV, or San Francisco, CA, and may involve occasional travel to project sites. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and may require visa sponsorship depending on their situation.
