Proto Labs is actively searching for an Injection Moulding Setter to become a valued member of their operation in Telford. In this capacity, the successful individual will be responsible for the full setup and processing of production orders while rigorously upholding established quality benchmarks and workplace safety protocols. What you'll do
Install and securely mount moulds into the designated injection moulding presses, verifying correct alignment and clamping force.
Set up machine parameters including temperature, pressure, and cycle times, then conduct test runs to process parts that meet engineering specifications.
Conduct detailed inspections of sample and production parts using precise measuring instruments to confirm dimensional accuracy.
Identify and troubleshoot process variations, defects, or equipment irregularities, implementing corrective actions to maintain flow and quality.
Operate material handling equipment safely and efficiently, including the use of an overhead crane and fork lift truck where licensed.
Monitor production schedules closely, adjusting machine settings between different products to meet shifting priorities without sacrificing standards.
Perform routine visual checks and basic maintenance on the press and associated tooling to support safe and reliable operation.
Record and report all production data, including measurements, adjustments, and any non-conformances, to ensure traceability and continuous improvement.
Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental procedures, ensuring the workplace remains organized, clean, and compliant at all times.
Collaborate effectively with quality, engineering, and production colleagues to resolve issues, share best practices, and drive overall line performance.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping around the machine, ensuring that scrap, packaging, and debris are cleared promptly and safely.
Support the implementation of lean manufacturing principles, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, shorten changeover times, and improve efficiency.
Work in a consistently fast-paced environment, demonstrating flexibility and resilience when managing multiple tasks and urgent production needs.
Act as the primary point of contact for addressing any molding issues that arise during your shift, escalating technical concerns appropriately when necessary.
Requirements
Previous setting experience in plastics manufacturing is essential for this position, providing a foundational understanding of mold processes and machine operation.
You must be capable of working confidently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where deadlines are met through coordinated effort.
Punctuality, good attendance, and strong attention to detail are mandatory, as your performance directly impacts production targets and product quality.
Proficient use of hand and power tools is required, with a demonstrated commitment to following safety procedures at all times.
You should be skilled in the use of measuring instruments and possess a sound grasp of basic arithmetic to accurately interpret technical data and specifications.
The ability to read and understand technical drawings, work instructions, and process documentation is necessary to perform duties correctly and consistently.
Reliable transportation to and from the Telford site is expected, as flexibility in scheduling may be required to cover operational needs.
Compliance with all company policies, including those related to quality, safety, and environmental standards, must be maintained at all times.
Nice to hold
Licensed to operate material handling equipment, including overhead crane and fork lift truck, is highly preferred for this role.
Practical notes
This is a permanent position with a standard working week of 37.5 hours, arranged in rotating early and late shift patterns to ensure continuous coverage.
Employees are entitled to 25 days of holiday per year, with the allowance increasing based on length of service, in addition to statutory bank holidays.
