Engineering Manager

About the role

You will lead and grow high-performing engineering teams within the Growth or Monetization Tribe, taking full ownership of their culture, performance, and delivery. You will define and drive the long-term vision and strategy for your teams, ensuring perfect alignment with Preply's company objectives and product priorities. You will partner closely with Product, Data, and Design to identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities that drive learner engagement, retention, and revenue. You will provide technical leadership by guiding system design and architectural decisions, helping teams navigate trade-offs, and removing technical obstacles. You will champion engineering best practices, focusing on code quality, operational excellence, and continuous process improvement. You will coach and develop engineers through regular feedback, mentorship, and career development, fostering an inclusive and collaborative team environment. You will balance speed, quality, and reliability to ensure consistent execution and delivery of outcomes that matter. You will collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across the broader business to maximize impact and align on strategy and results.

• Identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities, partnering closely with Product, Data, and Design to ensure teams focus on initiatives that deliver the greatest customer and business value.
• Own execution and delivery, balancing speed, quality, and reliability while ensuring teams consistently achieve desired outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership, guiding system design and architectural decisions, helping teams navigate trade-offs, and removing technical obstacles.
• Champion engineering best practices, driving continuous improvements in code quality, operational excellence, development processes, and technology evolution.
• Collaborate cross-functionally, working with stakeholders across the broader business to maximize impact and align on priorities, strategy, and outcomes.
• Leverage advanced CI/CD processes to release code 50-60 times per day, maintaining stability and performance at scale.
• Utilize data, A/B testing, and feedback from students and tutors to guide decisions and optimize product experiences.
• Work with scalable and reliable applications built on Python/Django, focusing on metrics analysis and continuous optimization.
• Engage with the company's AI adoption journey, contributing to more autonomous, AI-augmented development at scale.
• Access and experiment with cutting-edge tools provided by the company to build and iterate on solutions that impact millions of learners.
• Contribute to the company's engineering knowledge base by sharing insights on the Engineering Blog and exploring the Tech Radar and YouTube channel.

Requirements

• 3-5+ years of experience in building, leading, and scaling development teams.
• A people-centric approach and team building skills, with a passion for building high-performing teams and helping people grow.
• Strong technical judgment and systems thinking, comfortable driving architectural discussions and evaluating technical trade-offs.
• Experience working closely with Product, Design, and Data partners to align on priorities and outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to create alignment, foster psychological safety, provide actionable feedback, and develop engineers through coaching and mentorship.
• Comfort with advanced CI/CD processes, having helped teams release code frequently while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Experience using data, A/B testing, and feedback loops to guide product decisions and optimize user experiences.
• Familiarity with Python/Django and scalable, reliable application development in a high-growth environment.

• Knowledge of monetization, subscription, and payment systems in digital marketplaces.
