About the role
You will serve as the primary operational leader for the Human Resources function across the Michigan affiliate, driving consistent and employee-centered practices. In this role, you will supervise a regional team of Human Resources Generalists to ensure seamless frontline support for managers and employees. You will be responsible for day-to-day HR operations while managing complex employee relations and labor relations correspondence. This position requires a strong focus on tactical execution, policy compliance, and data-informed workforce improvements. You will develop manager capability and partner with leadership to improve overall workforce outcomes. The role demands ownership of high-level administrative processes and the delivery of equitable service across all health centers.

Lead and coach direct reports through performance management, workload balancing, and professional development initiatives to build a strong HR team.
Champion collaboration, accountability, and high-quality customer service standards within the Human Resources function.
Implement service standards, operational priorities, and performance expectations while promoting continuous improvement across HR processes.
Oversee regional HR service delivery to ensure equitable support for all health centers, administrative departments, and remote employees.
Provide expert consultation and coaching to leaders and managers on all employment matters and organizational initiatives.
Support the Chief Experience Officer in executing strategic people initiatives, organizational redesign, workforce planning, and enterprise-wide HR programs.
Manage HR billing reconciliations and first level approvals to maintain accurate financial and administrative records.
Ensure compliance with benefit audit requirements and manage all related documentation and procedural updates.
Prepare and execute the annual Open Enrollment Set-Up and rollout for Generalist implementation across the region.
Partner with legal counsel and leadership to administer contracts, handle grievance preparation, and support arbitration and mediation activities.
Oversee the consistent interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements to uphold organizational compliance.
Review and approve disciplinary actions to ensure adherence to just cause standards, contractual requirements, and organizational policy.
Lead or oversee complex workplace investigations into misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and policy violations with objective fact-finding.
Serve as the escalation point for complex employee relations cases referred by HR Generalists and Senior HR Generalists.
Monitor trends in employee relations, grievances, turnover, and organizational climate to recommend proactive risk reduction strategies.
Maintain accurate records of grievances, settlements, and all related correspondence for compliance and reference.
Lead labor-management committee meetings to facilitate communication and collaborative problem-solving.
Oversee recruitment, onboarding, workforce administration, and the full employee lifecycle to ensure compliant and positive experiences.
Review workforce planning recommendations, job descriptions, compensation requests, and staffing actions prior to executive approval.
Oversee performance management processes, including annual evaluations, performance improvement plans, and employee development planning.
Ensure effective administration of leave programs, accommodations, unemployment claims, and employment documentation.
Implement required training, learning administration, and workforce readiness activities to maintain organizational compliance.
Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements, accreditation standards, and Learning Management System operations.
Oversee employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Manage learning and development programs to support continuous skill building and professional growth.
Coordinate employee experience improvements to enhance engagement and satisfaction across all locations.
Requirements
Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field.
Possess a minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources generalist or specialist experience.
Demonstrate prior experience supervising and managing a team of Human Resources Generalists.
Show a strong understanding of employment laws, labor relations, and collective bargaining processes.
Have direct experience with employee relations investigations, grievance administration, and complex employment matters.
Proven ability to manage and interpret workforce data to inform HR decisions and strategies.
Demonstrate expertise in HRIS and HR technology systems for managing employee lifecycle and compliance.
Commit to maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment in handling sensitive employee information.
Nice to have
Experience with unionized environments and contract administration is preferred.
Knowledge of healthcare-specific HR practices and compliance requirements is a plus.
Experience with learning management systems and training program development is preferred.
Demonstrated success in managing employee engagement and retention initiatives.
Practical notes
This is a full-time, exempt position.
The role requires 50% travel throughout the state of Michigan.
