About the role
The Chief Financial Officer at Planned Parenthood of Michigan operates with a high level of autonomy to direct the business operations of the 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities. This role owns the strategic oversight of all accounting, financial reporting, and treasury functions, ensuring organizational solvency and compliance. The CFO is responsible for leading complex, cross-functional projects that drive significant business impact and support the mission. They translate financial data into actionable intelligence for the Executive Team and board stakeholders. This position requires a deep commitment to equity, which must be evidenced in every interaction with staff and external partners. The CFO collaborates closely with clinical and operational leaders to align financial strategy with healthcare delivery. Success in this role is defined by the ability to manage sophisticated financial systems and provide clear direction on fiscal health.

What you'll do
Analyze financial trends and prepare monthly financial statements and budget reports for management to ensure clarity and strategic alignment.
Develop and lead the annual operating budget process, monitoring compliance throughout the fiscal year and updating forecasts to reflect current realities.
Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements and progress reports for the boards of directors to maintain transparency and accountability.
Oversee treasury, accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis functions to ensure the solvency of both Ppmi and PPAM organizations.
Serve as the primary liaison for external audits, arranging and managing the annual audit performed by the external auditing firm.
Recommend revenue enhancement strategies and expenditure controls to optimize financial performance and support program sustainability.
Staff and lead the Finance, Investment, and Audit Committees to ensure robust governance and fiduciary oversight.
Manage cash reserves and coordinate with the Investment Committee to achieve appropriate return on investment while balancing cash flow needs.
Prepare reports and presentations for the Executive Leadership Team regarding business activity, financial position, and the implications of strategic decisions.
Evaluate proposals and recommend capital expenditures for inclusion in the annual budget to support long-term organizational goals.
Ensure leaders have timely access to data and reports from the Electronic Health Record and other systems to facilitate informed decision-making.
Maintain compliance with all FAS accounting standards and ensure financial systems and controls protect the assets and reputation of the organization.
Serve as the primary contact for insurance companies and government entities, ensuring adequate coverage and regulatory compliance.
Support the development of grant proposals and the reporting required for active grants, including adherence to specific requirements such as those for Title X funding.
Requirements
Demonstrate high ethical standards and integrity in all professional interactions and decision-making processes.
Possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a CPA certification strongly preferred.
Bring a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, with a proven track record in healthcare or non-profit sectors.
Show advanced proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis using spreadsheets and enterprise financial systems.
Have extensive experience managing complex budgets, overseeing audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Exhibit strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and mentor a high-performing finance team.
Display excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data for diverse audiences.
Commit to the mission of reproductive health and equity, understanding the unique operational environment of reproductive healthcare.

Practical notes
Travel is required at a rate of 5%.
