What you'll do

• Design and develop automation systems for various applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to define project requirements and specifications for control systems.
• Create detailed control system documentation, including functional specifications, system architecture diagrams, and user manuals.
• Program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) to ensure optimal performance of automated systems.
• Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of automation systems to identify and resolve issues before deployment.
• Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of automation systems at client sites.
• Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored automation solutions that enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in automation and controls to continuously improve our offerings and processes.
• Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates on project status, risks, and timelines.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns, sharing your expertise in automation and controls design.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure the availability of high-quality components for automation projects.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes and methodologies related to automation design and implementation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in automation and controls design, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in programming PLCs and HMIs from various manufacturers, such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Schneider Electric.
• Strong understanding of control theory, instrumentation, and process control systems.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
• Familiarity with CAD software for creating control system layouts and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and data visualization tools.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to automation systems (e.g., ISO, IEC).
• Previous experience in a client-facing role, providing technical support and solutions.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C++ for automation applications.
• Certification in automation or controls engineering (e.g., ISA, PMP) is a plus.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in automation software and tools, including PLC programming environments and simulation software.
• Strong analytical skills to assess system performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with project management tools to track progress and manage timelines effectively.

• This position is based in Tualatin, Oregon, and may require occasional travel to client sites for system installation and support.
