About the role
You will architect and own the end-to-end automation strategy for Verkor's production and process development initiatives, defining the technical roadmap for unmanned smart factory capabilities. In this position, you will design, develop, and implement advanced automation solutions that drive high-efficiency, low-cost, and highly reliable manufacturing processes across the value chain. You will leverage deep expertise in PLC-HMI programming, robotics, motion control, and industrial communication protocols to solve complex engineering challenges. You will collaborate directly with cross-functional teams to integrate automation hardware and software seamlessly into new and existing production lines. Furthermore, you will lead root cause analysis for intricate automation failures and implement robust corrective actions to ensure maximum system uptime. You will also establish and enforce rigorous safety and compliance standards for all automated systems under your responsibility. This role requires structured thinking, meticulous data sensitivity, and the capability to independently design algorithms to fulfill allocated tasks. Ultimately, your work will directly enable Verkor's ambition to realize a scalable, low-carbon manufacturing footprint in Europe.

What you'll do
Architect the automation architecture for production and R&D systems, defining hardware and software requirements aligned with Verkor's smart factory objectives.
Develop and implement PLC logic and HMI interfaces using structured programming techniques to ensure robust and maintainable control strategies.
Program and integrate industrial robots and automated guided vehicles to execute precise material handling and assembly tasks within manufacturing cells.
Design and tune motion control systems to achieve high dynamic performance and accuracy for critical production equipment.
Configure and manage industrial communication networks to guarantee reliable data exchange between controllers, sensors, and enterprise systems.
Lead the integration of automation solutions with mechanical, vision, and process equipment to ensure seamless line operability.
Conduct failure mode analysis and implement advanced diagnostics for complex automation issues to reduce unplanned downtime.
Optimize production workflows through continuous improvement initiatives leveraging data analytics and process metrics.
Ensure all automation designs comply with stringent safety standards and functional safety protocols for industrial environments.
Champion the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies and best practices to enhance scalability and flexibility of manufacturing operations.
Collaborate with process engineers to translate technical specifications into executable automation control strategies.
Support the qualification and validation of automated equipment throughout the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning.
Drive the development of standardized automation tools and reusable code libraries to accelerate future project deployments.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians on automation principles, troubleshooting methodologies, and documentation practices.
Act as a technical authority in automation, providing expert guidance to cross-functional teams during problem-solving sessions.
Requirements
Demonstrate a strong academic background or equivalent experience in Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Possess extensive hands-on experience with PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram.
Show proficiency in HMI/SCADA system design, configuration, and historical data management for industrial applications.
Have solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols including but not limited to EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus, and MQTT.
Exhibit expertise in robotics integration and programming for automated manufacturing and assembly processes.
Bring experience with motion control systems and servo drive tuning for precision equipment applications.
Hold a valid driver's license and be authorized to work in France without sponsorship requirements.
Be fluent in English to enable effective communication within an international team environment.
Display a proven track record of working in manufacturing, process, or industrial automation environments.
Demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets to drive technical decisions.

Nice to have
Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and digitalization initiatives in industrial environments.
Knowledge of battery manufacturing processes or cleanroom automation would be a significant advantage.
Familiarity with functional safety standards such as ISO 13849 or IEC 61508 is recommended.
