In this pivotal position, you will ensure the seamless operation of our Louisville facility, enabling our scientific team to concentrate on their research endeavors. Your responsibilities will encompass managing laboratory efficiency and safety protocols while enhancing the overall experience for both employees and visitors. This role is primarily focused on laboratory operations, with additional duties related to office and facility management.

What you'll do
- Supervise the daily organization and operational readiness of both Production and Research & Development labs to ensure optimal functionality.
- Manage the laboratory's inventory and consumables through Quartzy, overseeing purchasing and ordering processes in collaboration with the Procurement team.
- Coordinate the acquisition, installation, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment, maintaining a comprehensive equipment inventory.
- Ensure that lab workspaces are organized and efficient to facilitate smooth operations.
- Implement and oversee BSL2 safety protocols, conducting inspections and maintaining documentation, including managing a BSL2 room designated for infectious materials.
- Supervise the handling of hazardous materials and waste disposal, including profiling new waste streams in collaboration with vendors.
- Collaborate with Operations to coordinate Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) activities, including training and inventory management.
- Assist in the budgeting process for the lab and manage local operational expenditures effectively.
- Oversee the coordination and receipt of deliveries and shipments to ensure timely access to necessary materials.
- Serve as the primary liaison for building management and local service providers, including cleaning, kitchen, maintenance, and security teams.
- Provide support with light IT logistics, such as setting up workstations and managing equipment inventories.
- Welcome candidates, customers, visitors, and new hires, ensuring a positive first impression of the facility.
- Proactively identify and address site-level issues, collaborating with Operations on larger projects as needed.
- Support the Lab and Operations teams during inspections or audits to ensure compliance and readiness.
- Continuously seek opportunities to enhance site operations and improve efficiency.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in laboratory operations, office management, workplace operations, facilities management, or related operational roles.
- Proven experience in supporting laboratory environments, ideally within the biotech or life sciences sectors.
- Familiarity with BSL2 and BSL3 safety protocols and procedures.
- Experience in coordinating with vendors, contractors, and managing equipment, inventory, deliveries, and facility-related issues.
- Background in supporting safety protocols, inspections, documentation, or EH&S activities within a laboratory context.
- Strong organizational capabilities with the ability to juggle multiple operational priorities effectively.
- A customer-focused mindset, with an emphasis on building productive relationships with scientists, vendors, facilities teams, and visitors.
- Demonstrated efficiency in work processes and interpersonal relationships, with the ability to drive projects independently.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems as they arise.
- Comfort with hands-on tasks, vendor coordination, and process improvement initiatives.
- Practical and execution-oriented, with a strong commitment to follow-through on tasks.
