About the role
Pie Insurance is seeking a GAAP Accountant to own the complete financial close cycle. In this role, you will be responsible for driving accurate accounting operations from intake to the final shipment of financial results. You will ensure strict compliance with U.S. GAAP while meeting critical deadlines that support strategic decision-making for small businesses. This position is central to building a robust accounting function, establishing strong internal controls, and coordinating effectively with other departments. You will apply your technical expertise to real-world transactions, transforming data into reliable business insights.
Key Facts
What you'll do
Execute the full monthly close process, including preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, and variance analyses in strict accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of financial information.
Manage the detailed reconciliation of all cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and accrual accounts to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
Partner with the Finance leadership team to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and associated footnotes, focusing on clarity and compliance.
Champion process improvements within the accounting department, with a specific focus on strengthening internal controls and documentation quality.
Utilize technology and AI tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of close-related workpapers and procedures.
Analyze historical financial performance in collaboration with partners to identify trends and improve the overall quality of financial reporting.
Participate in system implementation and automation projects aimed at increasing the long-term efficiency and scalability of the accounting department.
Support leadership with ad hoc analysis and reporting, providing clear communication and updates as business priorities evolve.
Provide responsive support to other internal teams, addressing their operational accounting needs and fostering seamless cross-functional collaboration.
Perform month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring all deadlines are met and all required deliverables are completed to a high standard.
Maintain detailed documentation of accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and facilitate audits.
Assist with the preparation of management reporting packages and ensure all data is validated and accurate before dissemination.
Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of financial controls to mitigate risk and safeguard company assets.
Collaborate with external auditors by providing necessary documentation and explanations in a timely manner during audit cycles.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a role with full close cycle responsibilities.
Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of U.S. GAAP and the ability to apply technical accounting principles to complex business transactions.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to convey financial information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy in all documentation and reporting.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
