Senior Dimensional & Metrology Engineer
Job description
About the role
You are the architect of Peloton's global measurement standards and the definitive Subject Matter Expert for GD&T, owning the metrology lab roadmap and driving long-term product quality through advanced statistical analysis. You will lead a world-class team, bridging Hardware Engineering and Quality with a strict "zero-error" philosophy to ensure design intent translates perfectly into manufacturing reality. This high-visibility role demands mentorship, cross-functional leadership, and deep collaboration with suppliers to uphold the highest standards of precision. You will own critical decisions that impact global manufacturing validation and product reliability.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and own the global metrology lab roadmap, including CapEx planning, management of operational infrastructure, and optimization of measurement processes across all facilities.
Establish and enforce corporate standards for GD&T in accordance with ISO/ASME, leading cross-functional reviews to evolve the team from basic dimensioning toward data-driven functional gauging and advanced 1D, 2D, and 3D tolerance stack-up analysis.
Develop and implement measurement correlation protocols and conduct rigorous technical audits with overseas partners, including JDM and contract manufacturers, primarily in Asia, to guarantee lab-to-factory data alignment and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility capability.
Oversee high-precision inspection regimes utilizing CNC-CMM, 3D scanning, and related technologies, and spearhead dimensional root-cause investigations on prototypes to resolve field failures and elevate New Product Introduction success rates.
Partner closely with Supplier Quality and Hardware engineering teams to integrate Design for Inspection principles, validating functional gauges and fixtures prior to any tooling kick-off.
Act as a global mentor and educator, designing and delivering technical training programs that elevate metrology literacy and GD&T expertise across the entire organization.
Drive the adoption of advanced statistical tools and methodologies, translating complex dimensional data into actionable insights for executive stakeholders to support strategic quality decisions.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on measurement accuracy, process efficiency, and the elimination of systemic dimensional risks across the product lifecycle.
Ensure strict compliance with regulatory and customer-specific metrology requirements, maintaining documentation and controls that support audit readiness and product certification.
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing leaders to define inspection strategies that balance precision, cost, and scalability for high-volume production environments.
Requirements
Possess a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Dimensional Engineering or Metrology, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership capacity demonstrating measurable impact on quality and process outcomes.
Hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master of Science is strongly preferred and adds distinction to your expertise.
Maintain current certification in GD&T based on ISO 1101 or ASME Y14.5 standards, which is essential for consistent and correct application of geometric dimensioning practices.
Obtain or hold a Six Sigma Black Belt certification, evidencing a structured, data-driven approach to problem-solving and process optimization.
Demonstrate expert-level proficiency with PolyWorks, Zeiss Calypso, or PC-DMIS software, combined with deep, hands-on experience in SolidWorks and PTC Windchill for managing design and bill of material workflows.
Show a proven track record of managing Design for Excellence and Design for Inspection initiatives while working closely with high-volume manufacturing partners, particularly in Asian regions, to ensure seamless execution and quality alignment.
Exhibit a strong grasp of Measurement System Analysis principles, including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility studies, with the ability to interpret complex dimensional data and convert findings into clear, executive-level recommendations.
Display advanced knowledge of statistical tools used in dimensional control, capability analysis, and process validation to support robust decision-making and risk mitigation.
Exhibit meticulous attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the capacity to influence technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, matrixed environment while managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and cross-functional dependencies with professionalism.
Nice to have
Professional proficiency in Mandarin is highly valued to facilitate seamless collaboration with international manufacturing partners and to strengthen relationships with offshore teams.
