About the role
You own the end to end underwriting of loans in a timely manner, resulting in an acceptable level of credit risk and an appropriate risk return relationship. You facilitate the booking of new loans, ensuring customers clearly understand Pathward requirements and their responsibilities. You manage the entire underwriting process through closing with ownership of analysis and decision quality. You collaborate closely with Business Development Officers to provide a consultative and value added credit perspective before and after proposal issuance. You review and analyze new deal packages for content and completeness to ensure thorough evaluation. You review and analyze financial statement spreads and understand cash flows to form accurate assessments. You review and understand collateral and financial trends indicated therein to gauge risk and value. On occasion, you are willing to visit prospect locations and meet management of the business prior to closing for transactions over a predetermined amount. You gain a thorough understanding of the prospect's business and what is impacting the company's growth, or declining, performance.

What you'll do
- Underwrites the entire spectrum of lending products, regardless of size or complexity, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Understands and applies credit policies, corporate Program Standards, and minimum underwriting standards consistently.
- Collaborates closely with the various Business Development Officers to provide a consultative/value added credit perspective, both prior to proposal issuance and thereafter.
- Reviews and analyzes new deal packages for content and completeness to identify strengths and gaps.
- Orders and reviews due diligence and documentation to confirm adequacy and compliance.
- Reviews and analyzes financial statement spreads and understand cash flows for quality and sustainability.
- Reviews and understands collateral and financial trends indicated therein to assess risk and performance.
- On occasion, be willing to visit prospect locations and meet management of the business prior to closing for transactions over a predetermined amount.
- Gains a thorough understanding of the prospect's business and what is impacting the company's growth, or declining, performance.
- Reviews reporting requirements and processing with clients to ensure clarity and alignment.
- Analyzes debtor information in conjunction with Debtor Credit Manager for accurate risk assessment.
- Prepares the credit narrative/CAR (Credit Approval Report) for appropriate approval and/or credit committees with clear rationale.
- Reviews the closing documentation and effectively negotiates with the prospect client, internal/external legal counsel, and/or other transaction stakeholders.
- Mentors and trains analysts, and less experienced business development representatives to elevate team capability.
- Other duties as assigned to support organizational priorities and objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and work experience is required.
- 5+ years relevant experience in underwriting or credit roles is mandatory.
- Demonstrated Business Acumen to assess financial and operational drivers.
- Strong Customer Focus to ensure needs are understood and met.
- Ability to Collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent Communication Skills for clear and professional interactions.
- Proven Negotiating skills to reach balanced and fair outcomes.
- Must have the ability to self-train and quickly adapt to various IT systems and procedures, which are utilized by the business on a daily basis.
