Senior Developer Advocate
Job description
About the role
PagerDuty is a leader in Digital Operations Management. In an always-on world, organizations of all sizes trust PagerDuty to help them deliver a perfect digital experience to their customers, every time. Teams use PagerDuty to identify issues and opportunities in real time and bring together the right people to fix problems faster and prevent them in the future. Over 13,000 organizations (including 60 of Fortune 100) rely on PagerDuty to succeed with Digital Transformation, Cloud Migration, and DevOps Modernization. Notable customers include GE, Cisco, Genentech, Electronic Arts, Cox Automotive, Netflix, Shopify, Zoom, DoorDash, Lululemon and more. We are expanding rapidly as a platform for Digital Operations Management using AI/ML and Automation and growing our adoption by Development, IT, Customer Service, Security, and other teams across the organization. We are hiring a Senior Developer Advocate to join our small but mighty Developer Relations team. We're a group of practitioners turned educators who cover incident response, operational resilience and reliability, and increasingly the question of what changes when AI agents are participating in incidents rather than just observing them. We'd rather hire someone with opinions about this than someone waiting for a position to be handed to them. The shape of this work has shifted along with the rest of the industry, and we're still figuring out what good advocacy looks like under those conditions. You'd be figuring it out with us, while bringing your observations back to the table internally as a subject matter expert, through strong relationships across the organization. Expect to spend most of your time making things (writing, building, presenting) and participating in the places developers actually are. This role is expected to come into our Atlanta office two times per week, so you can thrive in your new role and fully embrace being a Dutonian.
Key facts
What you'll do
Build sample applications and integrations that directly exercise the PagerDuty API, including scenarios that test and demonstrate AI and agentic capabilities in realistic workflows.
Write technical content aimed at practitioners, producing tutorials, deep dives, teardowns, and strongly opinionated guidance that reflects real-world experience.
Speak at conferences, organize and participate in meetups, host webinars, appear on podcasts, and create video content, supported by CFP development and coaching to build and manage your ideas pipeline.
Show up consistently in the PagerDuty community and in external forums where operations, reliability, and AI engineering are actively discussed, while also supporting developer events run by your cross-functional teammates.
Route actionable feedback back to internal product, marketing, and support teams, attaching context that helps those groups understand developer needs and pain points.
Enable other teams by building and maintaining systems, templates, and playbooks that allow engineers, product marketers, and community champions to write and speak well at scale.
Explore and prototype new AI agent frameworks and tooling, translating hands-on experience into clear guidance for both internal and external audiences.
Collaborate with product managers and engineers to design and refine demos and hands-on labs that highlight incident response, operational resilience, and reliability workflows.
Represent the voice of developers in product discussions and planning sessions, ensuring that real-world constraints and best practices are considered in roadmap decisions.
Participate in hiring and onboarding activities, including technical interviews and mentorship, to help attract and grow the next generation of developer advocates.
Requirements
Experience in developer advocacy, developer relations, community management, solutions engineering, support engineering, SRE, or another technical role with accountability to developers.
Demonstrated technical credibility through live coding, live debugging, and real-world execution that can be observed and validated by others.
Carried a production pager and formed strong opinions about what good looks like in incident management and reliability processes, especially when AI is involved in the loop.
Proficiency in one or two programming languages, familiarity with REST and GraphQL APIs, and the ability to quickly become productive in unfamiliar environments and codebases.
A public body of work such as writing, talks, demonstration videos, code repositories, livestreams, or conference submissions that evidences your engagement with the developer community.
Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple formats, including documentation, slide decks, video scripts, and social media.
Active participation in technical developer communities, including forums, open source projects, user groups, and online channels.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time for conferences, meetups, team gatherings, and customer visits.
Nice to have
Hands-on experience engaging with security-conscious or compliance-heavy developer audiences, such as those in financial services, healthcare, or government.
Practical, hands-on experience working with AI agent frameworks, toolchains, and evaluation methods in production-like environments.
Experience running production systems at scale, including observability, incident response, and on-call practices in complex distributed environments.
A track record of contributing to open source projects that are used by other developers.
Prior customer-facing experience in technical support or solutions engineering, especially in fast-paced or on-call environments.
