About the role
PagerDuty is seeking a Head of Content Marketing (Contractor) who will own the end-to-end development and execution of the company's content strategy. This role reports directly to the Chief Communications Officer and acts as the primary connector between Communications, Marketing, Product Marketing, and Performance Marketing teams. The successful hire will translate high-level business and product priorities into a consistent pipeline of high-quality content across a wide range of formats. They will own both the creative craft of writing and the analytical discipline of measuring what works. The position requires a versatile writer-strategist comfortable with everything from punchy ad headlines to in-depth whitepapers, ensuring every piece serves a clear business objective.

What you'll do
Write, edit, and manage the production of ebooks, whitepapers, blog posts, thought-leadership articles, and other long-form assets from concept through publication.
Write and edit ad copy, email copy, social copy, and other short-form content in support of always-on and campaign-specific marketing efforts.
Develop and execute a content marketing strategy aligned with business goals, target personas, and the buyer's journey.
Collaborate with Marketing, Product, and Sales teams to understand audience personas, industry trends, and customer pain points to inform content creation.
Create, edit, and manage a variety of content types, including blog posts, whitepapers, case studies, eBooks, webinars, videos, and more.
Partner with subject matter experts to translate complex technical topics into clear, engaging content that does not sacrifice accuracy.
Manage the Content Calendar, prioritizing and sequencing content requests against business priorities while keeping stakeholders aligned on timelines and deliverables.
Track and report on how content performs across syndication channels, distilling metrics such as engagement, downloads, and lead quality into clear, actionable recommendations.
Optimize content for SEO, lead generation, and brand consistency to ensure every asset supports growth and discoverability.
Team with Performance Marketing on Paid Content, collaborating to align organic and paid content strategy and adapting assets for paid channels.
Ensure all content reflects PagerDuty's brand voice, style guidelines, and quality bar prior to publication, maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
Collaborate with external agencies, freelancers, and partners as needed to scale content production without compromising quality.
Support campaigns, product launches, and events with tailored content that meets specific objectives and stakeholder needs.
Stay up-to-date on industry trends, competitor content, and best practices to keep PagerDuty's content fresh, relevant, and differentiated.
Requirements
You must have 5-8+ years of experience in content marketing, with a strong preference for background in B2B SaaS or technology environments.
You possess exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills that enable you to engage both technical and business audiences.
You have a demonstrated willingness to experiment with AI tools while understanding that a human must remain behind all final content decisions.
You bring strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
You are familiar with SEO principles, analytics interpretation, and the use of content management systems such as WordPress and HubSpot.
You have experience working with data to inform content decisions and connect content performance to business outcomes.
You are comfortable operating independently and as part of a distributed, cross-functional team, communicating clearly and professionally in writing and video.
You understand the importance of brand consistency and can apply PagerDuty's guidelines rigorously across all outputs.
Nice to have
Experience creating content for technical infrastructure, observability, and incident response topics.
Previous work in high-growth SaaS or enterprise technology companies.
Familiarity with marketing automation platforms and lead nurturing workflows.
Basic understanding of product management processes and how go-to-market strategies are shaped.
