About the role
Optro is seeking a highly experienced Senior SDET II to join our dedicated Quality Engineering team in Canada. This position involves designing, developing, and implementing automated testing solutions for backend services and infrastructure components, with a focus on ensuring the overall quality, stability, and reliability of our AI-powered GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) Intelligence Platform. As a key member of the team, you will help shape testing strategies, develop frameworks, and lead automation initiatives that support product scalability, improve delivery speed, and enhance system robustness. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our SaaS solutions, enabling us to meet high standards for quality and customer satisfaction.

What you'll do
- Take ownership of technical aspects within test frameworks, infrastructure, and automation tools, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with product goals.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks specifically tailored for Optro's web applications, ensuring comprehensive coverage and efficiency.
- Lead the development of innovative testing strategies involving synthetic data generation and generative AI techniques to improve test coverage and simulate real-world scenarios.
- Create and implement architectural roadmaps to evolve existing test frameworks into advanced, self-healing, AI-driven testing systems that can adapt to changing application states and reduce manual intervention.
- Develop a deep understanding of the system's code structure, including how various components interact, to identify potential failure points and optimize testing processes accordingly.
- Research, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge agentic tools and automation technologies to enhance test automation capabilities and reduce manual effort.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior SDETs, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices in test automation and quality engineering.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure, platform, architecture, and product teams to ensure testing strategies align with overall system design and business objectives.
- Offer technical feedback during product design and architecture discussions, ensuring testability and reliability are considered from early development stages.
- Assess the testability of new features and functional components, providing input to improve design for better test coverage and easier automation.
- Stay current with emerging testing tools, methodologies, and industry trends, and research new approaches to enhance current testing practices and infrastructure.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing testing results, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to optimize testing workflows and system performance.
- Support the integration of automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring rapid feedback and deployment cycles.
- Participate in troubleshooting complex issues across multiple services or layers of the application stack, applying strong debugging skills to identify root causes.
- Document testing processes, frameworks, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability across the team.
- Assist in defining quality metrics and KPIs to measure testing effectiveness and system reliability over time.
- Engage with cross-functional teams to understand upcoming features and provide input on testing requirements and strategies.
- Contribute to the development of technical documentation, test plans, and reports to communicate testing progress and results to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 9+ years of professional experience in Software Development in Test (SDET), with a strong background in automation and testing frameworks.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with Playwright or Cypress for web application testing.
- 4+ years of coding experience in JavaScript and/or TypeScript, demonstrating proficiency in scripting and automation.
- 4+ years of experience automating tests for SaaS or B2B internet-based applications, with an understanding of cloud-hosted environments.
- 3+ years of experience building test automation solutions using Node.js and NPM, including scripting and package management.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining infrastructure-as-code automation using tools such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD.
- Demonstrated ability to research and adopt new testing tools, methodologies, and technologies to improve application quality, infrastructure, or team productivity.
- Strong debugging skills and experience troubleshooting complex issues across multiple services or layers of an application stack.
- Ability to make sound architectural decisions related to test frameworks, automation, and infrastructure.
- Experience testing web applications deployed on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, with an understanding of cloud services and deployment models.
- Familiarity with Agile-Scrum or other Agile methodologies, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot issues efficiently and review code and test cases with peers.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and document testing processes.
Nice to have
- Experience working with AI or generative AI technologies, contributing to testing strategies involving AI components.
- Knowledge of ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance and handling sensitive or classified data securely.
- Prior experience supporting enterprise SaaS platforms, ensuring high availability and reliability.
- Familiarity with testing in complex distributed systems, microservices architectures, and containerized environments.
- Background in software architecture and infrastructure design, contributing to scalable and resilient system development.
- Exposure to security testing practices and compliance standards relevant to enterprise applications.
