About the role
onX is seeking a highly experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the development and management of platform capabilities centered around user-generated data. In this role, you will be responsible for creating shared tools, APIs, and SDKs that enable various product lines - such as Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - to incorporate community contributions effectively and seamlessly. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and data, to define strategic roadmaps, prioritize initiatives, and ensure the quality and responsible use of user-generated content. What you'll do
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for capturing and utilizing customer-generated data as a core platform capability that supports multiple product lines.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify customer needs, gather insights, and translate these into clear, actionable product roadmaps that align with business objectives.
- Oversee the development of platform capabilities that empower product teams in Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish to create engaging, user-friendly contribution experiences.
- Foster alignment and enthusiasm among stakeholders across different teams and departments around the platform vision, ensuring shared understanding and buy-in.
- Lead cross-functional teams through the entire product lifecycle - from ideation and design to development, testing, launch, and ongoing improvement - while emphasizing data quality and responsible management.
- Establish and track key performance metrics to evaluate the success of platform features and use feedback from users and internal teams to drive continuous improvement.
- Work closely with engineering teams to develop APIs, SDKs, and other shared services that facilitate data collection, contribution, and integration across various products.
- Prioritize features and initiatives based on their potential impact, technical feasibility, and alignment with strategic goals, balancing short-term needs with long-term vision.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy standards, including user consent and data security, especially when handling community-generated content.
- Advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring that contribution processes are intuitive and accessible for outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels.
- Coordinate quarterly travel to corporate offices or other strategic locations for several days to facilitate collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and alignment.
- Support the integration of emerging technologies, including AI tools, into product development processes to enhance data analysis, moderation, and user engagement.
- Promote a culture of innovation, quality, and responsibility within the platform team, encouraging experimentation and learning.
- Act as a key voice in shaping the company's approach to community data, trust, and safety, ensuring that platform capabilities uphold the company's values and standards.
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in software product management, with at least 4 years managing platform or API products that serve multiple internal teams or external users.
- Proven track record of leading complex product initiatives from concept through delivery, particularly in ambiguous or evolving environments.
- Extensive experience developing APIs, SDKs, or shared services used by various teams or products.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to create clear, actionable roadmaps aligned with business goals and customer needs.
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Proficiency in defining success metrics, analyzing data, and using insights to inform product decisions and prioritize initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities to deliver impactful solutions.
- Experience working in fast-paced, innovative environments, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
- Familiarity with AI applications relevant to product development, data analysis, or moderation is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field such as computer science, engineering, or product management.
- Must have permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Willingness to travel quarterly for several days to corporate offices or other strategic locations to facilitate collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
