The role involves owning the end-to-end success of product initiatives within the onX ecosystem, requiring the hire to act as the primary driver for discovery, validation, and execution. You will own the full product lifecycle from initial concept exploration through definition, delivery, and measurement, ensuring outcomes align with both user needs and business objectives. This position demands comfort with high ambiguity and the ability to make informed decisions rapidly when data is incomplete. You will be responsible for translating complex stakeholder requirements into clear product strategies and actionable roadmaps that can be understood across the organization. Collaboration is central to this function, as you will partner closely with engineering, design, data, and go-to-market teams to ensure seamless execution. You will leverage experimentation and data analysis to continuously refine your hypotheses and prove the impact of your solutions on customer behavior. What you'll do
- Conduct deep discovery and synthesis to uncover unmet user needs and translate them into clear product requirements and success metrics.
- Define and own the product vision and strategy for your assigned vertical, ensuring alignment with the broader onX mission and long-term business goals.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to translate strategic objectives into executable roadmaps that balance user value, business impact, and technical feasibility.
- Prioritize features and scope based on rigorous analysis of user data, market trends, competitive landscape, and stakeholder input.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the user journey across all products, identifying friction points and opportunities for optimization.
- Work closely with design and engineering to translate concepts into technical specifications and prototypes that validate assumptions before full buildout.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators to measure product success and use insights to drive iterative improvements.
- Represent the product perspective in critical discussions, ensuring that user needs remain central to technical and business decisions.
- Utilize AI tools and modern methodologies to accelerate development cycles and enhance the quality of product deliverables.
- Collaborate with land stewardship and community teams to ensure product initiatives support outdoor access and responsible recreation.
- Synthesize feedback from customers and stakeholders to inform future product decisions and uncover new opportunities for innovation.
- Lead scoping sessions and requirements gathering to ensure clarity and alignment across all stakeholders involved in complex projects.
- Contribute to the broader product culture by sharing learnings, best practices, and frameworks that elevate the entire organization.
- Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding product timelines, status updates, and rationale behind strategic choices.
Requirements
- You are excited about the mission of onX and have a genuine passion for the outdoors and the communities we serve.
- You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, demonstrating your ability to learn and apply complex concepts.
- You possess 3+ years of experience in product management, product design, or a related role where you have owned end-to-end product outcomes.
- You are comfortable navigating high-ambiguity environments and making decisions with incomplete information.
- You have a proven track record of using data to inform decisions and measure the impact of your work.
- You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
- You have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineering, design, and analytics.
- You are proficient with modern product management tools and methodologies, and you actively seek out new technologies to improve your workflow.
Nice to have
- Experience working within the outdoor, recreation, or mapping industries, or a deep personal interest in these spaces.
- Familiarity with geospatial concepts, map data, or location-based services.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.
- Knowledge of AI tools and their application in product development contexts.
- Understanding of land access issues, public lands policy, or recreational user challenges.
