What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive quantity takeoffs for a variety of construction projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to gather necessary information for accurate material estimation.
- Utilize advanced software tools to create detailed takeoff reports and documentation that support project bids and proposals.
- Analyze project drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies and provide solutions to optimize material usage.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and best practices to ensure compliance in all takeoff processes.
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates by providing detailed breakdowns of materials, labor, and other project-related expenses.
- Participate in project meetings to discuss takeoff findings and collaborate on strategies for cost-effective project execution.
- Train and mentor junior staff in takeoff processes and software tools, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
- Develop and maintain a database of historical takeoff data to inform future project estimates and improve accuracy.
- Support the procurement team by providing timely and accurate takeoff information to facilitate material purchasing decisions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the takeoff function to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
- Prepare and present takeoff findings to stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project requirements and expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in quantity takeoff or estimating within the construction industry.
- Proficiency in takeoff software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with cost estimation processes and project budgeting is preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations relevant to the construction industry.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating or construction management organization (e.g., ASPE, AACE).
- Experience with project management software such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
- Familiarity with sustainable building practices and materials.
- Previous experience in a specialty trade (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC) is a plus.
- Understanding of Lean construction principles and practices.
