What you'll do
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs that comply with local, state, and federal regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
- Facilitate safety training sessions for employees, focusing on best practices, emergency response procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate with management to establish safety goals and objectives, tracking progress and making necessary adjustments to improve safety performance.
- Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, and inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Serve as a point of contact for safety-related inquiries, providing guidance and support to employees and management on safety matters.
- Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in safety management, continuously seeking opportunities for improvement within the organization.
- Assist in the development of safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are effectively communicated and enforced across all levels of the organization.
- Promote a culture of safety by engaging employees in safety initiatives and encouraging their participation in safety committees and programs.
- Collaborate with external agencies and organizations to enhance safety practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Prepare and present safety reports to management, highlighting key metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in safety coordination or a similar role, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices in workplace safety.
- Proven ability to conduct safety training and presentations, engaging employees at all levels.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building relationships and influencing others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety management software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to safety management.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel occasionally for site inspections or training sessions.
Nice to have
- Certification in Safety Management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans.
