What you'll do
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures that comply with local, state, and federal regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Lead safety training sessions for employees at all levels, fostering a culture of safety awareness and encouraging proactive participation in safety initiatives.
- Collaborate with management to investigate accidents and near-misses, analyzing root causes and implementing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, preparing reports for senior management to highlight trends and areas for improvement.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, ensuring that all necessary documentation is readily available.
- Develop and manage emergency response plans, conducting drills and training to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
- Engage with employees to promote safety initiatives, encouraging feedback and suggestions to enhance safety practices within the organization.
- Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes, adjusting safety programs as necessary to remain compliant and effective.
- Assist in the development of safety budgets and resource allocation to ensure the effective implementation of safety programs.
- Foster relationships with external safety organizations and resources to enhance the company's safety initiatives and stay informed about industry trends.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to integrate safety considerations into operational processes and projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the transportation or logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Proven ability to conduct safety audits and risk assessments effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence employees at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong leadership qualities.
