Staff UI Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
This Staff level position within the Identity and Access Management domain places ownership of complex product flows squarely on the shoulders of the hired candidate. The individual in this role is expected to shepherd features from their initial intake phase through to final production deployment with full accountability. Success requires the conversion of intricate operational constraints into tangible delivered value for the business and its customers. Furthermore, the position mandates active mentorship of peers and junior team members to elevate the entire engineering organization. The environment is inherently fast-paced, requiring a consistent output of speed, precision, and a high degree of personal ownership in all tasks. The role demands a balance between strategic architectural thinking and meticulous execution to ensure long-term product stability.
Location, engagement, and compensation
The position is physically located in Bengaluru, India, and requires a full-time engagement model. The compensation for this role is structured within a total range of USD 142,800.00 to USD 229,200.00 on an annual basis. This wide range is designed to reflect the significant seniority and the substantial impact this role has on the identity infrastructure of the organization. It is important to note that this total compensation package is a direct reflection of the position's critical nature within the company.
What you'll do
You will architect and design scalable user interface systems that effectively manage the entire lifecycle of user flows from initial intake to long-term production stability. A central aspect of the role involves leading cross-functional build initiatives in close partnership with product managers and design teams to define and deliver comprehensive features from conception to launch. You will conduct rigorous technical and design reviews with the specific aim of identifying potential risks early in the development cycle. This proactive approach ensures that all releases remain tightly aligned with established internal standards and strict quality benchmarks.
A primary responsibility involves shipping high-impact user flows that are architected to scale globally across a vast array of devices and diverse geographic regions. You will engage in deep collaboration with platform teams to integrate solutions securely with both the Okta Platform and the Auth0 Platform. This integration work is critical to ensuring that identity and access management principles remain robust and consistent across the ecosystem. The role requires a strong advocacy for accessibility and performance principles in every single user interaction. This focus is essential to maintain a consistently inclusive and high-performance experience for all users. You will also take on the responsibility of guiding interns and newer engineers through hands-on coaching and clear expectation setting. This mentorship component is vital for fostering professional growth and maintaining high team standards. Furthermore, you will drive data-informed decisions that have a direct impact on improving conversion rates and the overall reliability of the system for the end customer.
Requirements
Candidates are required to bring a minimum of 3-5 years of professional frontend development experience to the table. This experience must be demonstrably focused on building complex web applications that serve a global audience. A deep and abiding mastery of both React and TypeScript is not optional but required for success in this role. Specifically, the candidate must possess the ability to apply these skills effectively within demanding production environments that have strict reliability requirements. You must have the proven ability to write maintainable code that continues to remain robust as the Okta Platform increases in complexity over time. The longevity of the codebase is a key concern, and the hired individual must contribute to this sustainability. Effective communication skills are listed as an essential hard bar for this position. This is necessary to collaborate clearly with product managers and backend engineers to resolve both technical and product constraints efficiently.
Nice to have
The listing places high value on prior experience contributing to high-visibility products within the organization. Specifically, work on platforms such as the End User SSO Dashboard or the Okta Sign-in Widget is viewed favorably. This experience is valued because the user impact in these areas is direct and significant to the core business offerings. Demonstrating a history of work in these domains provides clear evidence of the required skills and judgment for the role.
Skills & tools
Proficiency in a specific set of core technologies is required for success in this position. These mandatory skills include React, TypeScript, Okta Platform, and Auth0 Platform. Mastery of these tools forms the absolute core technical foundation without which success in the role would be impossible. They are non-negotiable requirements listed in the official description of the position.
