Staff Software Engineer, AI Agentic Experience

About the role

You will architect and deliver the core infrastructure that enables AI agents to operate securely within enterprise identity boundaries. You own the design of agent tooling, runtime security, and the developer experience that bridges AI capabilities with production-grade authentication. This role demands you take full ownership of complex features from conception through production rollout with high reliability. You will solve ambiguous problems where identity principles intersect with emerging AI paradigms under real-world constraints. Your work will directly impact how organizations secure AI-driven workflows at scale. You will partner with cross-functional teams to define standards and shape the future of secure AI development. What you'll do

• Design and build developer tooling tailored for MCP servers and similar infrastructure to streamline secure AI workflows, directly supporting the Auth0 for GenAI offering.
• Build demo applications that showcase secure, identity-powered AI use cases in real-world environments, aligning with the mission to secure every identity from AI to human.
• Contribute to open source projects, both within Auth0 and across the broader AI + identity ecosystem, extending the reach of Auth0 Emerging Tech.
• Write and maintain high-quality documentation, including API references, quickstarts, and best practices for both developers and AI-native tooling (e.g., llm.txt).
• Drive integration with emerging AI frameworks by creating adapters, utilities, and interfaces for agent runtimes and orchestration layers, ensuring seamless operation of the Auth0 platform.
• Collaborate with design, product, and security teams to align on developer needs, roadmap direction, and compliance requirements for tenant-level protections.
• Mentor and support other engineers, setting strong examples in code quality, testing practices, and architectural thinking within the distributed and diverse team.
• Influence engineering standards by leading design discussions and contributing to team-wide architectural decisions that uphold the integrity of the Auth0 service.
• Ensure resilience and security of systems involved in agent-to-agent or model-to-service communication, maintaining the reliability expected of a Tier-Ø global service.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a proven track record in building tools, frameworks, or platforms for other developers, demonstrating ownership and speed.
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Golang, and/or Python, with the ability to fluidly move between front-end and back-end contexts to execute excellent engineering.
• Hands-on experience working with LLM APIs, agent runtimes, and orchestration frameworks to build reliable and scalable systems that do not break things.
• Deep understanding of identity and authentication concepts, including protocols such as OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect in modern architectures, recognizing that identity is the key to unlocking AI potential.
• Proven ability to design and deliver secure infrastructure that protects sensitive operations and data in high-risk environments, ensuring secure every identity.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, distributed team that values ownership, learning, and continuous innovation, operating with speed and urgency.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate technical decisions and collaborate effectively across global teams, including engineering, product, and security.
• A commitment to writing clean, testable code and maintaining high standards for documentation and maintainability, ensuring the infrastructure enables organizations to safely embrace the new era.

• Experience contributing to or maintaining open source projects at scale, which aligns with contributing to open source projects within the broader AI + identity ecosystem.
• Familiarity with security research, bot mitigation, or threat modeling for identity systems, connecting with the team focus on tenant-level protections.
