Staff Fullstack Engineer
Job description
About the role
We are seeking a technical leader to help build the infrastructure that secures digital identities for humans and AI systems. You will focus on high-stakes engineering problems within our platform, ensuring that our identity solutions remain reliable and neutral. This role requires a candidate who can navigate complex technical landscapes while maintaining a clear focus on system integrity. You will be responsible for driving architectural decisions that have a lasting impact on our core products. The ideal professional will balance innovation with the rigorous demands of identity security. You will work closely with distributed teams to align technical vision with business objectives. Success in this position will be measured by the robustness and scalability of the solutions you deliver.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and maintain features across the full stack for our identity management products, ensuring seamless integration between frontend interfaces and backend services. This includes designing user-facing components and server-side logic that work in harmony to deliver secure identity workflows.
- Solve complex technical challenges related to authentication, security, and automation by designing resilient systems that adapt to evolving threats. You will evaluate emerging risks and implement controls that protect digital identities without compromising usability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable infrastructure that supports global identity workflows and regulatory requirements. You will coordinate with security, compliance, and operations to ensure solutions meet industry standards.
- Take ownership of development cycles from initial design to production deployment, including code reviews, testing strategies, and incident response. You will guide the team through each phase to ensure quality and reliability.
- Implement robust solutions that leverage the Okta Platform and Auth0 Platform to enhance security and user experience. You will utilize these platforms to accelerate feature delivery while maintaining strict security postures.
- Optimize system performance and reliability through continuous monitoring, feedback loops, and iterative improvements. You will analyze metrics and logs to identify bottlenecks and drive remediation efforts.
- Partner with product managers and designers to translate business requirements into technical specifications that guide implementation. You will ensure that technical constraints are considered early to avoid costly rework.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on best practices, code quality, and architectural patterns. You will foster a culture of excellence through constructive feedback and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to the development of reusable components and libraries that accelerate future project delivery. These assets will reduce duplication and promote consistency across services.
- Engage with the broader engineering community to share knowledge and promote standards across the Okta and Auth0 ecosystems. You will participate in forums, documentation, and design discussions that influence long-term strategy.
Requirements
- Proven experience working as a fullstack engineer on large-scale software systems that handle critical identity operations. You have shipped features in production environments where uptime and security are non-negotiable.
- Ability to operate with high speed and urgency in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy. You thrive under pressure and manage competing priorities without sacrificing quality.
- Demonstrated history of executing complex technical projects with high standards and adherence to strict timelines. You have a track record of delivering results that meet or exceed expectations.
- Strong understanding of authentication protocols, security mechanisms, and identity management concepts. You are familiar with standards such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, and SAML.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures and modern deployment practices in distributed systems. You have worked with containers, microservices, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in fullstack development, with a focus on maintainable and testable code. You write clean, modular code that is easy to understand and extend.
- Capability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation.
- Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies, tools, and methodologies in the identity space. You actively seek out trends and apply them to solve real-world problems.
