About the role

We are on the lookout for a seasoned technical leader to oversee the architecture and management of high-scale data platforms that underpin our product data initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for designing infrastructure that empowers our teams to process and analyze data with both speed and accuracy. Your efforts will be crucial in laying the groundwork necessary for Okta to effectively scale its identity services.

What you'll do

• Develop and implement data pipelines that facilitate product analytics and intelligence, ensuring they can handle high volumes of data efficiently.
• Take charge of the technical strategy for data architecture within the product data ecosystem, guiding the direction of projects and initiatives.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify data requirements, ensuring that the output meets the highest quality standards.
• Enhance existing systems to boost performance and reliability, catering to the needs of global operations and users.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their growth and establishing best practices in data engineering.
• Engage in the evaluation and integration of new technologies that can improve data processing capabilities.
• Collaborate with product managers and other stakeholders to align data initiatives with business objectives and user needs.
• Conduct regular assessments of data architecture to identify areas for improvement and innovation.

Requirements

• Significant experience in data engineering, particularly in large-scale production environments, demonstrating a strong track record of success.
• Proven expertise in designing, building, and maintaining complex data platforms that support various business functions.
• Solid technical foundation in distributed systems and data modeling, with a deep understanding of how to optimize these for performance.
• Exceptional communication skills, enabling you to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to think critically and creatively in high-pressure situations.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions and platforms, enhancing your ability to work in modern data environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar frameworks, which can enhance our data processing capabilities.
• Knowledge of machine learning concepts and how they can be applied to improve data analytics and insights.
• Previous experience in a leadership role, particularly in mentoring and guiding teams in data engineering practices.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, which are critical for modern data architecture.
