About the role
Octopus Deploy establishes the benchmark for Continuous Delivery, enabling software teams to deliver value with agility. The organization serves more than 4,000 customers worldwide, including Ubisoft, Xero, Stack Overflow, NASA, and Disney. These customers rely on Octopus for Continuous Delivery, GitOps, and release orchestration solutions. The company was founded in Australia in 2012 and employs over 300 team members, known as Octonauts, located across the globe. The business has achieved consistent revenue growth of 20-50 percent annually for nine consecutive years and has remained profitable for 10 of the past 12 years. Octopus provides the industry's most comprehensive Continuous Delivery solution for organizations operating at scale.
The company has operated as a remote-first organization since 2015 and maintains an uncommon level of transparency. Employees can review the public handbook to understand how the company works. Octopus employs a transparent approach to compensation, ensuring that individuals performing identical work with equivalent skills receive identical pay. Clear career pathways are defined to support progression. The company fosters a supportive, collaborative, and high-trust environment. Team members leave job titles at the door and focus on what benefits customers and colleagues. Leadership actively answers difficult questions during all-hands meetings and one-on-one discussions. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually in line with remote-first operations.
This role offers significant benefits, including generous laptop and home office allowances, along with stock options. Annual leave is allocated for 25 days per year. Parents are eligible for 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave. The organization values transparency and fairness in all areas of the business. For example, the CEO provides monthly updates on company performance, and pay structures are designed to pass the 'printer test'. Trust and autonomy are central principles; Octonauts are respected and trusted to determine the best working methods for their tasks without direct supervision. Team members join a high-growth company with numerous opportunities to learn and advance their careers. The position operates under a remote-first policy, allowing work from any location that supports productivity. The company is supportive, ensuring every contribution is valued and work-life balance is respected.
Octopus Deploy maintains an inclusive workplace culture. The organization prioritizes culture-add over culture-fit. From the first day, new hires are paired with a buddy to assist with orientation. Coffee chats with any company member can be scheduled. Everyone is encouraged to participate in all aspects of product and business decisions. The company operates with an open chat policy, where all channels are public by default, and participation is welcomed from all staff. Individuals requiring assistance or accommodation during the application process due to a disability are asked to notify the company, and every effort will be made to provide support. Further information on inclusivity and other topics is available in the public handbook.
The role involves owning the complete journey from initial request through to stable production release. Designing deployment workflows forms a core part of daily responsibilities. Collaboration with distributed teams is essential while maintaining strict quality standards.
Key responsibilities include orchestrating deployment pipelines for complex software products. The role requires designing release strategies that align with team delivery schedules. It involves automating configuration changes across multiple target environments efficiently. Team members will guide infrastructure adjustments using a version-controlled approach to ensure reliability. Reviewing deployment outcomes and coordinating fixes with engineering partners is a standard duty. Building reusable patterns that simplify future rollout activities for new services is expected. The role includes partnering with platform teams to enhance deployment observability and feedback. Shipping updates safely by validating environments before production promotion is a critical responsibility.
The ideal candidate has three to five years of experience deploying applications in production settings. A clear understanding of configuration management and environment separation principles is required. Effective communication skills are necessary when working with diverse remote colleagues across different time zones.
Experience with the Octopus Deploy product suite is considered a valuable addition.
Proficiency with specific tools and skills is essential. These include Octopus Deploy, Git, Azure, AWS, Linux, PowerShell, and YAML.
