Staff Software Engineer
Job description
About the role
You will be the hands-on technical owner of a core product, and the right hand of our Director of Engineering. The role is backend-heavy, product-facing, and high ownership. You should enjoy being deep in the code, close to the product, stakeholders, and even customers, while also acting as a technical leader involved in strategic decisions. A good way to think of it is that it's a very hands-on, quasi-CTO for the product. You will architect and evolve our LiteAPI platform, ensuring it meets the needs of our global partners with resilience and performance. You will drive technical decisions that directly shape the travel infrastructure used by major brands. You will mentor engineers and elevate the engineering standards across the product. You will translate complex product requirements into robust, scalable backend solutions.
Key facts
What you'll do
Define and own the end-to-end architecture of our LiteAPI product, making strategic technical decisions that balance speed, reliability, and scalability.
Design and implement backend services in Go, focusing on high-throughput APIs that power critical travel workflows for our global ecosystem.
Collaborate closely with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, maintainable, and observable production systems.
Lead the execution of roadmap initiatives, breaking down complex problems into manageable deliverables while maintaining a high standard of quality.
Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on priorities, trade-offs, and timelines across the EMEA and global footprint.
Champion best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure long-term maintainability and developer ergonomics.
Act as a technical leader in incident response and postmortems, driving improvements to prevent future issues and improve system reliability.
Mentor and guide engineers, providing hands-on coaching and fostering a culture of craftsmanship, learning, and ownership.
Engage directly with customers and stakeholders to gather feedback, validate assumptions, and ensure the product meets real-world needs.
Continuously explore and adopt new tools, technologies, and patterns to keep our infrastructure competitive and efficient in a fast-moving market.
Represent the product and engineering voice in company-wide discussions, influencing strategy and long-term technical direction.
Work closely with design and product teams to ensure backend solutions align with user experience goals and business outcomes.
Own key service level objectives and service indicators, ensuring our APIs meet stringent performance and uptime commitments.
Drive automation and infrastructure improvements to reduce manual toil and accelerate delivery across the product lifecycle.
Requirements
You are very strong in Go, with a proven track record of building and maintaining high-performance backend services.
You have balanced hands-on coding with leadership, product engagement, and stakeholder management throughout your career.
You have built and launched products at high-growth startups, navigating ambiguity and delivering results under pressure.
You are comfortable working in backend and infrastructure-heavy environments, with deep understanding of APIs, concurrency, and distributed systems.
