Engineering Manager, Mapping Platform
Job description
About the role
You own the mapping platform that transforms fragmented global hotel supply into accurate, trusted, and sellable inventory. This role centers on the business-critical domain where matching, deduplication, content enrichment, automation, and ML determine whether hotel inventory can be searched, trusted, booked, and sold. You will lead the engineering team behind Cupid, the internal mapping platform that covers hotel mapping, room mapping, content mapping, and the operational workflows that keep inventory quality high at scale. Your responsibilities include modernizing systems and workflows while establishing a clearer operating model across engineering, data/ML, and mapping operations. A core part of the role is turning messy supplier data into reliable inventory that customers can search, trust, book, and sell, directly impacting conversion, supply quality, customer experience, and revenue. This is a high-ownership position with high expectations, accompanied by meaningful equity in the company.
Key facts
What you'll do
Lead the mapping platform domain end-to-end, taking responsibility for architecture, delivery, and operational health of the system that normalizes global hotel supply.
Own the core mapping workflows including matching, deduplication, content enrichment, and automation, ensuring they scale reliably and remain explainable to stakeholders.
Partner closely with data and ML teams to design, deploy, and iterate on models that improve mapping accuracy, room classification, and content quality across suppliers.
Drive the modernization of Cupid systems and workflows, identifying technical debt, proposing refactors, and delivering improvements that increase team velocity and platform reliability.
Define and own clear operational models and SLAs for mapping quality, working cross-functionally with engineering, data, ML, and mapping operations to align on goals.
Collaborate with product and supply teams to understand new supplier integrations, evolving requirements, and edge cases that impact mapping correctness and coverage.
Lead a platform that directly influences search, trust, booking, and revenue by ensuring hotel inventory is accurate, consistent, and ready for sale across channels.
Design interfaces and tooling that enable mapping operations teams to efficiently review, validate, and correct automated mapping decisions at scale.
Champion best practices in data quality, observability, and debugging, enabling other teams to understand mapping behavior and resolve issues quickly.
Act as a technical leader in shaping how mapping problems are solved, balancing short-term execution with long-term platform strategy and maintainability.
Guide engineers in backend, data, platform, and infrastructure decisions, ensuring solutions are robust, maintainable, and aligned with company growth objectives.
Mentor engineers by providing code reviews, technical guidance, and career development, fostering a culture of quality, curiosity, and ownership within the mapping team.
Requirements
Have experience as an Engineering Manager or senior technical engineering leader managing a complex, data-heavy product.
Possess a strong software engineering or computer science background with deep understanding of backend, data, platform, and infrastructure systems.
Demonstrate leadership in building and scaling teams that operate in production environments with strict reliability and quality requirements.
Show competence in working with large, complex datasets and data pipelines, including experience designing or influencing data models that support mapping and matching.
Be comfortable making technical and tradeoff decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments while balancing product needs, platform integrity, and delivery timelines.
Have a track record of collaborating with data scientists and ML engineers to operationalize models and ensure they perform reliably in production systems.
Bring experience defining and enforcing service levels, operational workflows, and quality metrics for a platform that serves multiple internal and external customers.
Communicate clearly and influence without authority, working across time zones and functions to align stakeholders on mapping strategy and priorities.
