Nium is building a critical layer in the global financial system, and the Director
Business Development will be instrumental in shaping its growth trajectory in North America. You will own the strategic acquisition of banking and fintech clients, aligning their complex cash movement needs with Nium's real-time infrastructure. This position requires you to act as a trusted advisor, guiding enterprise leaders through the intricacies of cross-border payments and how Nium can solve their most pressing challenges. You will be responsible for identifying, qualifying, and closing high-value opportunities that expand Nium's footprint across key financial hubs. Success in this role means directly influencing how institutions design, integrate, and operate their global payout networks. You will translate market demand into actionable sales strategies that drive both new business wins and expansion within existing accounts. The role demands a proactive approach to market intelligence, ensuring Nium remains ahead of competitive dynamics and regulatory shifts impacting payments. What you'll do
- Lead end-to-end sales cycles for enterprise clients in the banking and fintech sectors, managing discovery, solution design, negotiation, and closure.
- Conduct comprehensive discovery sessions to analyze client cash flow behaviors and translate these insights into targeted entry strategies that unlock new revenue streams.
- Architect regional expansion frameworks that align product capabilities with partner priorities across diverse geographic markets, ensuring alignment with local demands.
- Coordinate solution design activities in close partnership with engineering and compliance teams to ensure payout capabilities adhere to local regulations and specific operational requirements.
- Manage intricate implementation schedules, orchestrating cross-functional resources to guarantee integration milestones are achieved on time and without operational delays.
- Develop and execute revenue partnerships with strategic clients, negotiating commercial terms that deepen Nium's presence and increase wallet share within existing enterprise accounts.
- Lead bespoke client training programs, driving deep adoption of features that optimize workflows and accelerate transaction volume across payment rails.
- Evaluate portfolio metrics using advanced data platforms, performing transaction flow analysis to validate solution fit and uncover latent risks or opportunities.
- Provide executive-level reporting to C-suite stakeholders, presenting clear roadmaps and performance outcomes to secure leadership alignment and strategic guidance.
- Champion Nium's value proposition in key financial centers, building a robust pipeline of qualified leads that support predictable revenue growth.
- Collaborate with legal and regulatory experts to navigate money transmission licensing (MTLs), cross-border payment systems rules, and US bank sponsorship requirements.
- Serve as the primary link between client needs and internal product innovation, feeding market intelligence back into the organization to influence future capabilities.
- Mentor junior sales and business development staff, sharing best practices and methodologies that elevate the entire team's performance.
- Drive the adoption of Nium's card issuance services in the 34 active countries, focusing on strategies that boost activation and usage metrics.
- Monitor competitive landscapes continuously, adjusting playbooks to maintain Nium's edge in speed, cost, and reliability of global payouts.
Requirements
- You must possess a minimum of three years of experience selling cross-border payment infrastructure to financial institutions, with a proven track record of closing complex deals.
- You must operate effectively across multiple legal entities, managing stakeholders with competing priorities while adhering to strict timelines and deliverables.
- You must demonstrate proficiency with data platforms, leveraging transaction flow analysis to validate solution fit and identify areas for process optimization.
- You must articulate complex technical constraints into clear commercial alternatives, using precise business language that resonates with executive decision-makers.
- You must reside in or be authorized to work in the United States for this full-time role, ensuring compliance with employment eligibility requirements.
- You must have a deep understanding of US money transmission licensing (MTLs), cross-border payment systems, and the regulatory landscape governing financial services in the Americas.
- You must be adept at building and maintaining relationships with C-level executives, including CFOs, CTOs, and Heads of Payments within banking and fintech organizations.
- You must have experience working with global payout networks, understanding the nuances of settlement, currency conversion, and real-time disbursement capabilities.
Nice to have
- Experience in negotiating enterprise-level contracts that involve tiered pricing, volume commitments, and revenue-sharing models.
- Familiarity with issuing and acquiring ecosystems, including card networks and banking rails, to better address client integration needs.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in the payments space, such as blockchain-based settlement and API-driven banking platforms.
