What you'll do
This work supports banks, fintechs, and global businesses as they move money instantly, while also enabling monthly close, annual financial reporting, and variance analysis.
Cash flow trends are examined to inform forecasting for a large volume of annual payments. Regulatory filings are completed, and compliance with corporate tax and VAT is maintained across entities that hold regulatory licenses in many markets. Internal control frameworks are upheld, and policy development is supported with external auditors and advisors.
Analytical models are built to guide business decisions in a large B2B payments market. Knowledge is shared with junior team members through mentoring and training. Process improvements are identified, and special finance projects are advanced.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within financial services or at a global accounting firm serving financial sector clients, is required. Solid understanding of IFRS, tax regulations, and regulatory frameworks is required. Experience with accounting software platforms is required. Current residency in Malta is essential for this position.
Prior experience with regulatory compliance and audit processes in financial services is preferred. Exposure to the fintech or payments industry is preferred. Experience with financial systems implementation or process automation is preferred.
Practical notes
This role is based in Malta and requires existing residency. The position is full-time with hybrid working arrangements. Typical interview steps
Finance interviews usually include technical questions on accounting or modeling, a case study, and behavioral rounds. Candidates may be asked to build a forecast or explain a variance. Spreadsheet skills are tested in most loops. Accuracy and clear explanations matter. Interviewers may give a real dataset and ask for a quick analysis. Showing your work and explaining assumptions matters as much as the final number.
Good to know
Finance roles in fintech often combine technical accounting with process optimization. Teams commonly use data tools to analyze transactions and regulatory changes. Strong communication skills help translate complex financial data for non-finance stakeholders. Continuous learning supports adaptation to evolving standards and technologies. Collaboration across functions drives accurate reporting and compliance.
Questions to ask
Good questions to ask the employer in the interview: what does success look like in the first six months, how is the team structured, what is the current biggest challenge, and how are decisions made. Asking about growth paths and the review process is also well received. Employers expect questions, and good ones show preparation.
Career growth
