About the role
As a Senior Product Manager for the Payments Platform at Nium, you will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing the core infrastructure that powers our global cross-border payment services. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the payment rails that facilitate billions of transactions each month, ensuring they operate reliably, securely, and efficiently across diverse markets. You will work closely with engineering, compliance, and business teams to define product strategies, prioritize features, and implement improvements that support Nium's mission to deliver seamless, real-time international payments. This role requires a deep understanding of payment systems, scalability challenges, and regulatory environments, as well as a passion for building resilient infrastructure that can handle the demands of a rapidly growing fintech company.

What you'll do
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for Nium's payments infrastructure, focusing on reliability, scalability, security, and compliance across multiple markets.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design, build, and improve the payment rails that support cross-border transactions, ensuring they meet high standards of performance and resilience.
- Own the product lifecycle for the payments platform, including requirements gathering, prioritization, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization.
- Work with compliance and regulatory teams to ensure the platform adheres to local and international standards, including ITAR regulations when applicable.
- Analyze transaction data and platform performance metrics to identify bottlenecks, failure points, and opportunities for automation and process improvements.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) related to platform uptime, transaction success rates, error rates, and throughput, and track progress against these metrics.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams - including engineering, legal, compliance, and business units - to ensure platform features support new markets, currencies, and payment methods.
- Lead initiatives to improve platform resilience, including disaster recovery, fault tolerance, and scalability enhancements to handle billions of transactions per month reliably.
- Support onboarding of new markets and currencies by ensuring the platform infrastructure is prepared, compliant, and capable of supporting local regulations and operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing updates on project milestones, risks, and strategic initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes impacting cross-border payments, and incorporate relevant insights into product planning.
- Drive continuous improvement in platform support for local collections, account transfers, wallet, and card issuance services, ensuring seamless user experiences globally.
- Lead efforts to optimize the platform's support for principal card issuance on Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and UATP, including the issuance of over 50 million card tokens annually.
- Work closely with product teams to support the company's growth initiatives, including expanding the payout network spanning over 190 countries and supporting more than 100 currencies.
- Contribute to the company's strategic goals by ensuring the payments infrastructure can scale efficiently to meet projected market growth, including the B2B payments market projected to reach US$175 trillion by 2030.
- Participate in cross-departmental planning to enhance platform reliability, security, and compliance, ensuring Nium remains a leader in the fintech industry.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a product manager or in a similar role within payments, financial infrastructure, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of cross-border payment systems, banking rails, and the regulatory environment across different markets.
- Experience managing large-scale, high-volume payment platforms, ideally handling billions of transactions monthly.
- Demonstrated ability to develop product strategies, define roadmaps, and lead cross-functional teams to execute complex projects.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and develop data-driven solutions.
- Familiarity with compliance standards, security protocols, and regulations relevant to international payments, including ITAR if applicable.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Experience working in an Agile environment, managing product backlogs, and delivering iterative improvements.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, balancing technical, regulatory, and business needs.
- Knowledge of APIs, payment rails, core banking systems, and card issuance processes is advantageous.
