Nexthink seeks a Staff or Senior Desktop Application Developer to join a focused team responsible for architecting and delivering our AI-powered IT self-service chat agent. This role centers on a native desktop application deployed to a global base of 20 million endpoints. The position involves shaping the client layer of Nexthink's AI platform to ensure employees receive a seamless and responsive experience directly on their Windows and macOS devices.

The successful candidate will exercise significant technical influence beyond routine implementation. They will define technical direction for the client layer and participate in cross-team design decisions. This role serves as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership and product management. The position requires tackling challenges related to performance, reliability, and deep native OS integration. Collaboration with backend, infrastructure, and security teams is essential to ship a production-grade application at global scale.

This role carries high impact and high ownership. The Staff or Senior Desktop Application Developer will make foundational architectural decisions regarding the client platform. They will actively help shape the desktop engineering practice at Nexthink.

Core Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision and architectural strategy for the desktop client application.
• Lead the design of a high-performance, native desktop application capable of operating on Windows and macOS at a scale of 20 million endpoints.
• Partner with product, backend, and AI/ML teams to ensure client experience alignment with the broader AI platform.
• Provide technical leadership regarding client architecture, coding standards, and best practices for native desktop development.
• Architect and deliver a reliable and secure application covering the full distribution lifecycle. This includes signing, packaging, installation, updates, and uninstallation.
• Champion observability, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and diagnostics across the entire client stack.
• Act as a mentor and multiplier, raising the technical bar for other engineers.
• Lead technical deep dives, design reviews, and roadmap alignment discussions with leadership.
• Ensure security, compliance, and OS-level integration best practices are embedded in the design from the outset.
• Bring 7+ years of desktop application engineering experience, with a track record of shipping native applications on Windows and macOS.
• Demonstrate a proven ability to design and ship client applications to large user bases, with deep understanding of platform-specific constraints and behaviors.
• Show strong proficiency in Rust and/or C++, along with solid experience building cross-platform desktop applications.
• Possess deep knowledge of Windows and macOS OS APIs.
• Have hands-on experience with the full application distribution lifecycle. This includes code signing, packaging, auto-update mechanisms, and deployment at scale.
• Maintain a strong understanding of desktop application performance profiling, memory management, and crash diagnostics.
• Communicate exceptionally well, influencing cross-functional teams and leadership with clear technical direction.
• Demonstrate a track record of mentoring and elevating engineering teams.

Nice to Have Qualifications

• Familiarity with the Tauri framework.
• Familiarity with React and TypeScript UI development.
• Experience integrating desktop clients with cloud backends via REST, WebSockets, or gRPC.
• Background in system-level programming, including OS hooks, accessibility APIs, and inter-process communication.
• Prior work on applications involving silent background operations, system tray components, or notification-driven user experiences.
• Exposure to endpoint telemetry, observability SDKs, or client-side APM integration.
• Experience with enterprise software distribution and managing application update strategies at scale.

Compensation and Practical Information

This role is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The engagement is full-time. The compensation package for this position ranges from 140,000 CHF to 170,000 CHF.
