What you'll do
- Redefine automation for the AI era by transitioning Flow from a platform primarily for human users to one that AI agents can utilize for generating and executing workflows in secure, reliable environments.
- Design and implement large-scale, distributed systems that operate in real-time, catering to enterprise clients with extensive networks of endpoints.
- Collaborate with Product Management and UX teams to determine not only how to build features but also what should be built and the rationale behind it, ensuring product relevance and value.
- Integrate generative AI as a fundamental component of product capabilities, focusing on its effectiveness and iterating based on performance metrics.
- Lead the technical direction of the project, influencing architectural decisions and elevating engineering standards while mentoring junior team members.
- Engage in exploratory phases of product development, adapting to evolving priorities and fostering a culture where the best ideas prevail.
- Work in partnership with various teams including Product, Infrastructure, Security, and AI/ML to align engineering efforts with broader business objectives.
- Promote reliability and engineering excellence by enhancing observability, performance, resilience, and scalability throughout the technology stack.
- Serve as a mentor and technical leader, helping to elevate the skills of fellow engineers and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Leverage your product engineering expertise to create scalable solutions, understanding the underlying reasons for design choices and prioritizing customer value.
- Utilize generative AI in practical applications, demonstrating experience in evaluating and refining AI-driven features.
- Bring a wealth of experience in large-scale distributed systems, ensuring high throughput and fault tolerance in real-time applications.
- Possess over 10 years of backend engineering experience, including at least 3 years in senior roles, with a proven track record in designing and scaling systems for millions of users.
- Demonstrate expertise in Java (version 17 and above) with a strong foundation in distributed systems, concurrency, and high availability.
- Have hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures, including AWS or similar platforms, Kubernetes/ECS, containerization, and large-scale databases.
- Exhibit a deep understanding of API design, streaming data, and event-driven architectures.
- Communicate effectively across teams, influencing technical direction and fostering collaboration.
- Have a history of mentoring engineers and enhancing team capabilities through guidance and support.
- Commit to engineering excellence, integrating CI/CD practices, observability, and quality assurance into daily workflows.
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years in backend engineering, with at least 3 years in a Staff or Principal role.
- Proven experience in building and scaling backend systems for high user volumes or real-time applications.
- Proficiency in Java (17+) and a solid background in distributed systems and high availability.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud-native architectures, including AWS or equivalent, Kubernetes/ECS, and containerized deployments.
- Strong grasp of API design principles and event-driven systems.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring and elevating the technical capabilities of engineering teams.
- A commitment to engineering best practices, including CI/CD, observability, and quality assurance.
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced AI/ML techniques, including model fine-tuning and training.
- Familiarity with B2B enterprise product development.
