About the role
New Relic is hiring a Solutions Consultant II to join their team in Tokyo, Japan. This role involves working closely with customers to help them understand and adopt New Relic's observability platform for monitoring software performance and infrastructure health. The Solutions Consultant II serves as a technical advisor, guiding clients through product demonstrations and helping them solve real-world monitoring challenges across their technology stack. You will collaborate with sales teams and engineering colleagues to deliver tailored technical presentations that address customer needs and demonstrate the value of observability data. Success in this position requires a deep curiosity about how applications run in production and a genuine desire to help organizations improve their reliability and performance.

What you'll do
- Conduct product demonstrations that showcase New Relic observability features for prospective and existing customers
- Work with account teams to understand customer technical environments and identify relevant use cases
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations tailored to different stakeholder audiences within client organizations
- Troubleshoot and resolve customer issues related to platform configuration and data ingestion
- Create custom dashboards and queries to help clients visualize their application performance data
- Travel occasionally to customer sites or regional offices to provide in-person support and training
- Collaborate with the sales team during the pre-sales process to position New Relic solutions effectively
- Gather customer feedback and relay insights to product and engineering teams for continuous improvement
- Develop technical documentation and best-practice guides that customers can reference after engagements
- Support the onboarding process for new customers, ensuring they achieve initial value quickly
- Assist customers in migrating their monitoring setup to New Relic by mapping existing metrics and dashboards to the new platform
- Participate in internal knowledge-sharing sessions to stay current on product updates and new features released by New Relic
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field
- Strong understanding of software architecture, application performance monitoring, and observability concepts
- Experience presenting technical content to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to communicate complex monitoring and telemetry concepts in clear, accessible language
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Comfort with traveling domestically and internationally as part of customer engagement activities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with Japanese language ability preferred
- Minimum of two years of experience in a technical consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical role
- Proven ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and quality
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment where adapting to shifting priorities and customer demands is expected
Nice to have
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools and practices beyond New Relic's own product suite
- Knowledge of container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and their monitoring requirements
- Prior experience working with enterprise-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures in production environments
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation and configuration tasks
- Understanding of security monitoring and compliance frameworks that influence how observability data is collected and stored

Practical notes
- This position is based in Tokyo, Japan, with the expectation of working from the Tokyo office or remotely within Japan
- Occasional domestic and international travel is part of the role, typically ranging from 10 to 30 percent of the time
- The role reports to a senior solutions consultant or team lead within the New Relic Japan organization
