Job Description and Responsibilities
As the first Financial Analyst dedicated to Engineering, you will report directly to the Strategic Finance Lead. You will be a foundational member of Neuralink's Strategic Finance function, working alongside key stakeholders in manufacturing and hardware development. Your primary focus will be the unit economics of the N1 implantable device, adjacent durable accessories, and the R1 surgical robot. You will translate intricate technical specifications into rigorous costing models. This work provides clear financial visibility to both Strategic Finance leadership and engineering stakeholders. Your analysis will directly support commercialization, guide capital investment decisions, and shape the product roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Costing and Unit Economics
You will manage the bill of materials for manufactured devices, converting engineering changes and tolerances into immediate financial effects on cost of goods sold and gross margins. You will maintain the master BOM model across all device lines to support manufacturing financial planning. Developing "should-cost" models for the N1 implant, the R1 robot, and related accessories will be a core duty. These models require regular updates based on engineering innovation cycles. They serve as the source of truth for manufacturing planning and supplier negotiations. You will partner with Implant and Robot teams during architecture reviews to quantify tradeoffs between performance and cost. This work arms engineering stakeholders with real-time cost visibility and fosters a culture where cost is a design input.
Strategic Manufacturing and Supply Chain
You will engage in long-term capacity planning with commercial, clinical, and manufacturing teams. The analysis will ensure demand and capacity plans align and identify opportunities to increase capacity at the highest return on investment. You will analyze make vs. buy decisions by comparing in-house build economics with external sourcing for critical components. Collaboration with Strategic Finance, Engineering, and Supply Chain is essential. You will perform supplier sourcing by analyzing landed costs, pricing ramps, lead times, and minimum order quantities. This analysis translates into recommendations that drive cost targets while de-risking supply chain decisions. Tracking cost-reduction initiatives, including scrap reduction and cleanroom yield improvements, will fall within your scope.
Capital Planning and Execution
You will own the tracking models for manufacturing facility capital expenditures. This includes high-precision tooling, robotics, and cleanroom infrastructure. Building financial models that link these facility investments to capacity increases and throughput targets will be required. Your analysis will justify major capital requests and guide strategic resource allocation.
Requirements
You must manage unit economics for complex hardware products such as N1 and R1. You must convert technical specifications into rigorous costing models that offer real-time visibility. You must partner closely with manufacturing and hardware development stakeholders. You must own should-cost modeling and supplier sourcing insights. You must track scrap, yield, and cost-reduction initiatives in cleanroom and assembly environments. You must manage BOM data and model facility capital expenditures for high-precision tools. You must translate ROI analyses for capacity investments into actionable recommendations.
Nice to Have
Experience in medical devices or neurotechnology is preferred.
Compensation and Location
This is a full-time position based in South San Francisco, California, United States. The base compensation for this role is $134,900.00 per year.
Skills and Tools
Expertise in financial modeling, cost accounting, SQL, and Excel is required. Strong presentation skills are essential for communicating insights to diverse stakeholders.
