Senior Design Researcher
Job description
About the role
We are on a mission to understand our customers deeply, and this role owns the end to end design research that makes that mission real. You will lead the research agenda that helps MYOB product and design teams make smarter, more confident decisions across both the SME and Practice segments. Your curiosity and rigour will directly shape what gets built, from early discovery through to solution validation and long term learning. You will design and deliver studies that blend qualitative and quantitative methods, uncovering what customers truly need in their day to day business lives. While research is your primary focus, you can flex your UX and product design skills to frame problems, shape concepts and contribute to the customer experience when the team needs support. You are genuinely excited about how AI is transforming the research landscape, and you will champion new ways of working and the responsible use of these tools within the practice. You will help MYOB make faster, better informed decisions without sacrificing the depth and rigour our customers and product teams deserve.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will define and own the research strategy for key MYOB products, ensuring methods align with product stage and business goals. You will uncover customer needs through in-depth interviews, contextual inquiry, and observation, revealing the real problems behind stated requests. You will craft and run integrated studies that combine qualitative insights with quantitative signals from analytics, experiments, and feedback sources. You will partner closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and analysts to turn complex behavioural findings into clear, actionable directions. You will synthesise evidence into compelling narratives and visual artefacts that make insights tangible and memorable for cross functional teams. You will facilitate workshops and interviews, guiding stakeholders to focus on the right problems and co create meaningful solutions. You will evaluate concepts and prototypes through targeted validation research, reducing risk before major investments are made. You will track how customers use digital products through quantitative signals, identifying patterns that point to unmet needs or friction points. You will champion the responsible use of AI assisted tools, exploring new research methods while maintaining methodological rigour and ethical standards. You will continuously communicate insights back into product roadmaps, helping teams prioritise work that delivers the greatest value to business customers.

You master both qualitative and mixed method research, knowing when and how to apply each approach effectively to the problem at hand. You have a track record of translating research findings into clear product and design decisions that teams actually act on. You have a collaborative mindset and can partner effectively with product, design, engineering, and analytics colleagues in fast paced environments. You can independently manage research initiatives, balancing depth, rigour, and speed in fast moving product contexts. You hold a tertiary education in a UX related field such as cognitive science, psychology, anthropology, human computer interaction, or a closely related discipline.
