Principal Developer API Platform

About the role

You will own the full lifecycle of the API Platform, designing, building, and delivering new features that directly improve functionality, performance, and reliability for every integration. You will act as the trusted subject matter expert, guiding the team through complex API challenges and shaping technical design and build decisions with clarity and confidence. You will partner closely with internal development teams to onboard and migrate APIs to Apigee, offering hands-on support and technical mentorship that raises the standard across the board. You will safeguard the operational health, security, scalability, and performance of the platform, monitoring behavior, managing incidents, and optimizing infrastructure across cloud environments with disciplined ownership. You will drive improvements in DevOps, automation, API governance, and developer experience by refining CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automated testing, platform standards, documentation, and the Developer Portal. You will help businesses start, survive, and succeed by ensuring the API Platform reflects the values of MYOB, where what is good for one business is good for all business. What you'll do

Champion the design, implementation, and evolution of the API Platform, translating business needs into robust, scalable, and secure technical solutions.

Serve as the go-to subject matter expert for API strategy and execution, tackling difficult problems and influencing technical direction through clear reasoning and evidence.

Collaborate with cross-functional development teams to guide the onboarding and migration of APIs onto Apigee, delivering hands-on mentorship and practical support.

Protect and enhance the operational integrity, security, scalability, and performance of the API Platform, leading incident response and infrastructure optimization in cloud environments.

Advance DevOps practices and automation, improving CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing to increase speed, reliability, and consistency.

Elevate API governance and developer experience by refining platform standards, documentation, and the Developer Portal so teams can integrate with confidence and ease.

Leverage full-stack development skills to build and maintain features on both frontend and backend, ensuring cohesive user experiences and technically sound implementations.

Apply proficient knowledge of Azure cloud and Azure APIM to optimize API delivery, monitoring, and security in line with best practices.

Use proficient programming skills in at least one language such as Java, Python, Node.js, or Go to craft clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.

Support continuous improvement across the API lifecycle, from initial design through to deprecation, with attention to performance, observability, and governance.

Contribute to platform roadmaps by identifying opportunities for automation, standardization, and improved outcomes for internal and external consumers.

Work within the constraints of the cloud environment to ensure resilient, scalable, and cost-effective delivery of API capabilities that meet evolving business needs.

Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing across teams, helping to build a cohesive culture around APIs, documentation, and quality.

Enable business stakeholders to move quickly by removing technical barriers through thoughtful tooling, automation, and clear guidance.

Requirements

Bring full-stack development experience, with the ability to work confidently on both frontend and backend components.

Demonstrate proficiency in API Platform concepts, including API proxies, shared flows, policies, and security controls, with Azure APIM experience as a clear advantage.

Maintain solid working knowledge of Azure cloud services and how they support scalable, secure, and reliable API solutions.

Show proficient knowledge of DevOps methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code practices that enable frequent and safe delivery.

Have experience in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, Node.js, or Go, with a track record of writing readable and maintainable code.

Commit to the principles of MYOB, including the belief that what is good for one business is good for all business and that business success benefits entire communities.

Understand the importance of operational health, security, scalability, and performance in cloud-based platforms and take ownership of improving these qualities.

Be prepared to collaborate closely with internal teams, providing mentorship, guidance, and hands-on support to lift the overall capability of the organization.

Experience with API platforms and governance models that align with enterprise standards.

Familiarity with developer portals, documentation frameworks, and automated publishing processes.

Knowledge of security and compliance considerations specific to API management in cloud environments.

This is a permanent role based in Melbourne, Australia.

Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia without sponsorship.
