This position is for an AI Engineering Manager at MYOB, headquartered in Sydney, Australia. The role is a full-time engagement and represents a significant leadership opportunity within the company's technology organisation. MYOB is a leading business management solution dedicated to helping businesses in Australia and New Zealand start, survive, and succeed. The company's philosophy is that when businesses run smoothly, everyone benefits, and this principle guides its mission to provide tools that allow people to focus on what matters most. In this role, you will be responsible for owning the technical strategy and delivery of AI features for MYOB's SaaS business management platform. You will lead a small, high-performing team of engineers, shaping the technical vision for machine learning systems that drive real value for small and enterprise customers. This position is integral to the company's innovation journey, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence, and aligns with MYOB's goal of being at the forefront of technological transformation in business software.
What You'll Do
As the AI Engineering Manager, you will define the technical roadmap for AI-driven features, ensuring alignment with MYOB's strategic priorities for small business success. You will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of machine learning systems, with a specific focus on large language models and foundation models tailored to the needs of businesses. A core responsibility will be to build and deploy scalable workflows to train, deploy, and monitor models on AWS services such as SageMaker and Bedrock. You will own end-to-end project delivery, guiding initiatives from ideation through to production while applying MLOps best practices to ensure robust and efficient solutions. This includes establishing robust model versioning, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines to maintain reliability, safety, and efficiency. Collaboration will be a key component of the role, requiring close partnership with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions align with both customer needs and broader business goals. You will also mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of authenticity, curiosity, and collaboration within the AI team. Additional responsibilities include optimising AI systems for scalability, performance, and security in a cloud-native environment, and driving innovation by exploring emerging techniques that can be translated into practical solutions for small business challenges. Throughout all duties, there will be a strong focus on ensuring that solutions deliver clear customer impact and operational excellence.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. Demonstrated proficiency in machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch is essential. You must have proven experience with large language models and foundation models, including GPT, Claude, and Llama. A strong knowledge of AWS services is required, specifically SageMaker, Bedrock, and S3. Extensive experience with MLOps practices is necessary, including CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, and monitoring. Proficiency in containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is also a requirement. Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or leading engineering teams is expected. Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty, are highly desirable. Additionally, you must have a passion for solving real-world challenges for small businesses through innovative AI applications. The role requires the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, bringing creativity and resilience to build impactful systems from the ground up. A customer-focused mindset and a proven commitment to delivering solutions that support business outcomes are critical. Thought leadership and experience guiding technical strategy at scale are also important attributes for success in this position.
