Technical Instructional Designer
Job description
About the role
You will serve as the human expert overseeing our AI-assisted content creation pipeline. This role requires you to evaluate AI output, correct technical inaccuracies, and design high-touch learning experiences that AI cannot replicate. You will act as the critical thinking partner who ensures that every piece of learning is accurate, relevant, and aligned with real-world performance. The position demands a balance of technical rigor and creative empathy to translate complex concepts into accessible journeys. You will own the end-to-end quality of the learning materials produced by the team. This includes challenging assumptions and refining narratives to ensure they resonate with diverse audiences. Ultimately, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between emerging technology and proven pedagogical practice.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Conduct a thorough analysis of performance gaps to define precise learning objectives using backward design principles.
- Design comprehensive programmes where success is measured by on-the-job application and behavioral change rather than simple test scores.
- Evaluate AI-generated content critically, identifying and correcting technical inaccuracies to ensure factual precision and clarity.
- Create bespoke learning assets such as branching narratives and high-stakes onboarding scenarios that require human empathy and nuanced judgment.
- Employ advanced prompt engineering techniques to leverage AI tools effectively and accelerate the development lifecycle.
- Explore and test new learning design methodologies to keep the curriculum at the forefront of pedagogical innovation.
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders and programme designers to refine frameworks and elevate overall content quality.
- Iterate on existing materials based on learner outcome data, proactively revising content that fails to meet performance benchmarks.
- Balance the rapid prototyping of new learning formats with the need for long-term sustainability and maintainability.
- Develop complex generative or agentic AI training materials that guide learners through intricate conceptual landscapes.
- Tailor learning experiences for diverse learner personas, ensuring accessibility and relevance for varied audiences and contexts.
- Establish a strong track record of influencing stakeholders to adopt specific curriculum improvements and best practices.
- Demonstrate resilience in overcoming project obstacles or failed launches, articulating lessons learned to foster continuous improvement.
- Prototype innovative learning solutions while maintaining a keen awareness of practical constraints and long-term vision.
Requirements
- Demonstrate proficiency in end-to-end instructional design, specifically within the ADDIE model, with a strong emphasis on backward design.
- Ensure that all learning objectives are measurable and directly aligned with desired on-the-job performance outcomes.
- Demonstrate hands-on production of technical content for generative or agentic AI systems or possess 2+ years of instructional design experience in a commercial environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to design learning experiences for complex generative or agentic AI concepts across various learner personas and technical contexts.
- Demonstrate a track record of using AI-powered tools and prompt engineering to enhance and streamline content development processes.
- Influence stakeholders to adopt specific curriculum improvements, even in the face of resistance or competing priorities.
- Show resilience in overcoming project obstacles or failed launches, with the ability to clearly explain lessons learned and apply them proactively.
- Possess at least one of the following: a Data or Computer Science degree, completion of a technical apprenticeship in Data or AI, or 2+ years of experience as a Data or AI practitioner.
- Plus one of the following: hands-on production of technical content for generative/agentic AI OR 2+ years of instructional design experience in a commercial environment.
Nice to have
