What you'll do
- Commercial Contracts: Independently draft, review, and negotiate a broad spectrum of commercial agreements including customer master service agreements, public procurement frameworks, supplier terms and conditions, professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and requests for proposals or bids.
- GTM Partnership: Embed directly with the Go-To-Market sales team, providing commercially focused legal guidance, joining customer calls, leading negotiations, and ensuring that Legal scales effectively to support growth targets.
- Risk Management: Conduct structured legal risk assessments, proactively identify potential issues, and exercise judgment on whether to escalate matters or resolve them autonomously at an appropriate level.
- Prioritisation & Delivery: Balance multiple competing priorities across commercial transactions, cross-functional initiatives, and routine legal work, using AI tools to increase efficiency while consistently meeting deadlines without close supervision.
- Product & Platform: Advise Product and Technology teams on legal implications of product development, feature launches, and platform decisions, translating business requirements into legally sound outcomes.
- AI Legal Landscape & Related Contracting: Review and draft AI-related contractual provisions covering IP ownership, liability allocation, indemnities, and ethical use clauses, while staying current on emerging AI regulation and market norms.
- IP: Contribute to the management of Multiverse's intellectual property portfolio, including trademark protection strategies, licensing provisions, and IP considerations embedded in new product features.
- Project Management, Legal Operations & Cross-Functional Support: Drive end-to-end legal projects from scoping and planning through delivery, coordinating stakeholders, managing timelines, and maintaining clear communication with minimal supervision.
- Legal Operations: Take ownership of internal legal resources such as playbooks, clause libraries, and templates, and help establish agile, technology-enabled processes that leverage AI to streamline the team's ways of working.
- Team Development: Provide hands-on guidance to paralegal staff, support other lawyers on their workstreams, and build capability across the team through coaching and practical support.
- Training & Enablement: Design and deliver training sessions for internal teams on key legal, commercial, and regulatory topics, enhancing overall organizational capability.
- Privacy Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Privacy team to address data protection requirements across products and commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with regulatory obligations.
- Cross-Functional Support: Offer legal support to People, Privacy & Compliance, Finance, and Operations or Delivery teams, moving confidently across practice areas and developing into a multi-specialist lawyer.
Requirements
- Qualification: Qualified solicitor in England & Wales.
- Experience: Approximately 3 to 5 years post-qualification experience, with demonstrated ability to handle complex commercial matters.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of commercial objectives and the ability to translate them into legally robust agreements.
- Drafting Skills: High-quality drafting and negotiation skills for a wide range of commercial contracts and procurement processes.
- Risk Judgment: Sound judgment in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and commercial risks.
- Independence: Proven ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- AI and Technology Interest: A keen interest in AI, data, and technology-related legal issues, and a willingness to deepen knowledge in these areas.
- Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with emerging regulations such as the EU AI Act is advantageous, along with a desire to stay current on evolving standards.
- IP Experience: Previous experience managing or supporting intellectual property portfolios is beneficial.
- Collaboration: Strong ability to partner with commercial, product, and technical teams to enable business outcomes while protecting legal risk.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Learning Agility: Demonstrated ability to learn quickly across multiple domains, tools, and regulatory frameworks.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with AI-driven products and services and related contracting approaches.
- Knowledge of public sector procurement and frameworks relevant to selling into UK and EU markets.
- Experience contributing to legal operations, process improvement, or the implementation of legal technology and AI tools.
- Background in delivering training or enablement programs for internal stakeholders on legal or compliance topics.
