About the role
You will architect and own the automated validation frameworks that underpin the reliability of MujinOS in live industrial environments. The role requires you to design simulation-based test scenarios that mirror actual customer deployments across diverse geographies and use cases. You will collaborate closely with robotics engineers, computer vision specialists, and control algorithm teams to ensure end-to-system correctness. A significant portion of your work will involve probing the boundaries of robotic behavior in simulated physics environments before any physical deployment. You will translate abstract reliability requirements into concrete test pipelines that run continuously in automated CI/CD workflows. This position places you at the intersection of software, hardware, and physics where decisions directly impact real-world automation outcomes. You will own the metrics that prove MujinOS behaves as expected under edge-case conditions in production warehouses and factories. Your work will feed directly into product releases that shape how global supply chains operate.

What you'll do
Design and implement large-scale automated testing infrastructure to validate the Mujin robotics operating system across heterogeneous hardware fleets.
Architect simulation-based test environments that accurately replicate real customer deployments including robot arms, custom end-effectors, vision systems, and conveyors.
Develop end-to-end test scenarios that validate system-wide behavior rather than isolated software components.
Integrate validation pipelines with continuous integration systems to enable automated regression testing on every code change.
Implement monitoring and observability tooling that captures system telemetry during simulated production runs for offline analysis.
Collaborate with control algorithm and perception teams to create test cases that exercise rare edge conditions and failure modes.
Define and enforce quality gates that ensure MujinOS meets safety and reliability standards before promotion to production environments.
Work with product and operations teams to translate reliability requirements into measurable test criteria and success metrics.
Maintain and evolve simulation assets so they remain representative of evolving hardware configurations and real-world use cases.
Document testing methodologies, architectural decisions, and failure mode analyses to support both engineering and customer-facing teams.
Create debugging tooling that allows engineers to replay and inspect failed test scenarios in rich visual simulations.
Establish performance benchmarks for validation pipelines to ensure timely feedback without compromising test coverage.
Partner with external customers to incorporate field data into simulation models, improving the accuracy of virtual test environments.
Champion best practices for test design, reproducibility, and traceability across the robotics organization.
Requirements
You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
You must possess 5 or more years of professional software development experience with at least 2 years focused on robotics, automation, or real-time systems.
You must have hands-on experience with simulation platforms commonly used in robotics such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or similar frameworks.
You must be proficient in programming languages commonly used in robotics such as C++, Python, or Rust.
You must have a strong understanding of robotics concepts including kinematics, dynamics, perception, and control loops.
You must have experience designing and maintaining large-scale distributed systems or test infrastructure.
You must be comfortable working with version control systems, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
You must have a meticulous approach to debugging complex systems where software, hardware, and physical interactions intersect.
Nice to have
Experience with Mujin products or industrial automation ecosystems is a strong advantage but not required.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for robotics software and test orchestration frameworks.
Knowledge of physics-based simulation and numerical methods used in motion planning and control.
Experience with data pipelines for processing large volumes of telemetry from simulated or real robotic systems.
Background in supply chain, logistics, or warehouse automation is beneficial but not mandatory.
Practical notes
The role is full-time and based in Tokyo, Japan at the MJHQ location.
This is an English-language position conducted onsite at the office.
No visa sponsorship is provided for this role.
Candidates must be able to commit to the full duration of the engagement without interruption.
Travel requirements are not applicable for this position as it is based at the primary site.
