The Quality Assurance Engineer role within the Hardware System Team is central to this mission, ensuring the quality and reliability of Mujin Controller and Mujin Pendant through rigorous processes and cross-functional collaboration. This position demands expertise across both software and hardware aspects of embedded systems, with a focus on establishing and maintaining quality standards that define operational excellence.
What you'll do
- Architect comprehensive quality control processes and define quantifiable key performance indicators such as First Pass Yield (FPY) to measure operational effectiveness.
- Establish rigorous internal quality standards that govern testing procedures and acceptance criteria for hardware and software integration.
- Design and perform extensive quality tests while maintaining meticulous quality records for traceability, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Lead systematic failure investigations to identify the root cause for non-conformance events and formulate actionable corrective and preventive actions.
- Execute strategic quality improvement tasks aimed at enhancing product reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and overall system performance.
- Provide expert training for internal qualification processes to ensure team-wide adherence to standards and elevate organizational capability.
- Conduct regular process audits and maintain accurate documentation of all audit findings, observations, and corrective actions.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to integrate quality checks seamlessly into the production workflow and validate end-to-end system behavior.
- Analyze test data to uncover trends and drive data-informed decisions that prevent future defects and optimize real-world performance.
- Support the development and validation of the Mujin Controller interface to ensure it meets stringent functional, reliability, and usability requirements.
- Ensure the Mujin Pendant operates reliably within the automated ecosystem through rigorous validation testing under simulated and real conditions.
- Contribute to the creation of test plans that simulate real-world scenarios in palletizing, picking, and automated truck unloading applications, reflecting MujinOS capabilities.
- Leverage insights from digital twins to refine perception, planning, and control algorithms during verification and validation phases.
- Champion a culture of quality by promoting best practices, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience with demonstrated impact in robotics or automation.
- Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer or in a similar role within robotics, automation, or manufacturing environments, with a focus on hardware and system integration.
- Demonstrated expertise in both software and hardware aspects of embedded systems testing, validation, and quality assurance.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and relevant industrial standards, including documentation control, traceability, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with statistical process control and data analysis to measure metrics such as First Pass Yield (FPY), defect rates, and process stability.
- Solid understanding of failure analysis methodologies, root cause investigation techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone), and corrective action frameworks.
- Ability to develop, execute, and maintain detailed test procedures, scripts, and documentation for complex hardware and software systems.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and product management.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with no-code platforms or interfaces similar to MujinController, including configuration, testing, and validation.
- Familiarity with computer vision systems, including test methodologies, image validation, and performance metrics.
- Knowledge of motion planning algorithms and their impact on hardware performance, reliability, and cycle time.
- Understanding of automated applications such as palletizing, picking, and truck unloading, including workflow integration and edge-case handling.
