Release Manager / Release Engineer

About the role

Mujin is hiring a Release Engineer to anchor the final stage of our software lifecycle, owning the critical transition from development to production-readiness. In this capacity, you will own the definition, execution, and continuous improvement of our release pipeline, ensuring that MujinOS and MujinController move from code to customer with zero compromise on integrity. You will design and enforce the quality gates, versioning strategies, and validation rituals that transform chaotic development into a predictable, auditable delivery stream. This role requires you to build the internal scaffolding - tooling, workflows, and automation - that allows engineering teams to ship complex robotics software with confidence and speed. You will be the guardian of stability, responsible for making releases a controlled, repeatable event rather than an unpredictable gamble. By collaborating directly with engineers, QA, and documentation owners, you will ensure that every artifact leaving our pipeline is documented, traceable, and immediately usable. Ultimately, your work will make the distributed, autonomous capabilities of MujinOS reliable enough for the most demanding industrial environments.

What you'll do

• Design intake procedures that capture version details and environment specifications before any packaging activity begins.
• Configure and manage build triggers and version tags while continuously monitoring compilation output for anomalies or deviations.
• Establish and operate review checkpoints where engineers validate logs and configuration against strict, predefined release criteria.
• Stage deployments into isolated test environments and execute smoke tests to confirm expected behavior and system integrity.
• Negotiate handoffs with partner teams by documenting interfaces and rigorously verifying compatibility with external systems and toolchains.
• Ship validated software artifacts through automated distribution channels only after they have passed defined quality gates and checks.
• Guide partner teams on rollout timing, maintenance windows, and support procedures for new functionality entering production.
• Maintain and evolve the core toolchains for packaging, testing, and monitoring to support continuous delivery and operational excellence.
• Implement versioning and traceability mechanisms that link source commits, build artifacts, and deployed releases for full auditability.
• Drive the creation of release notes, validation reports, and operational runbooks that make new features understandable and usable.
• Automate repetitive release tasks to reduce manual error and increase the throughput of stable, high-quality versions.
• Collaborate with QA to define release validation suites and ensure that test coverage aligns with real-world deployment scenarios.
• Monitor release health metrics and feedback loops to identify regressions and drive rapid remediation of post-deploy issues.
• Standardize release practices across the engineering organization to create a consistent, scalable, and reliable delivery model.
• Act as the central point of contact for release-related decisions, ensuring alignment between engineering, operations, and product teams.

Requirements

• Bring a minimum of three years of hands-on experience with software release practices in a technical role.
• Demonstrate familiarity with MujinController and MujinOS components as they are used in real automation scenarios.
• Show a solid understanding of version control systems, packaging formats, and deployment patterns for distributed software.
• Prove you can operate effectively in an English-only environment while based in Tokyo, Japan.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail and the ability to follow complex procedures without deviation.
• Display comfort with command-line tools, scripting, and automation in dynamic, fast-paced settings.
• Have experience coordinating with cross-functional teams to align on release schedules and quality standards.
• Commit to maintaining the security and integrity of release artifacts and related documentation.

• This engagement is Full-Time, conducted in English based in Tokyo, Japan at our headquarters (MJHQ).
• The annual compensation for this role is 2500000 JPY.
