About the role
You will architect and implement the core services that power MujinOS, focusing on the high-throughput data pipelines that enable Machine Intelligence to function in real time. You will own the design of distributed systems that bridge the gap between physical robot fleets and the digital twin, ensuring deterministic behavior under load. This role requires you to take end-to-end ownership of features from initial specification through production deployment and continuous optimization. You will collaborate closely with perception and planning algorithm teams to translate robotic requirements into robust software interfaces. You will be responsible for defining and maintaining the architectural guardrails that allow our warehouse execution and fleet management systems to scale globally. You will investigate and resolve complex production incidents, balancing immediate stability with long-term code health and maintainability. You will mentor junior engineers by providing clear technical direction and fostering a culture of rigorous code review and shared learning. You will partner with product and operations stakeholders to turn business objectives into technical specifications that drive measurable efficiency gains.

Investigate latent performance bottlenecks in the data ingestion layer of the warehouse execution system using advanced profiling tools.
Refactor legacy communication protocols to align with modern event-driven architecture patterns, improving system responsiveness.
Design and implement new APIs that enable seamless integration between MujinController and third-party warehouse management platforms.
Lead the migration of critical state management services toward a more resilient and horizontally scalable infrastructure.
Optimize the scheduling algorithms that coordinate robot movements within dynamic digital twin environments for maximum throughput.
Develop diagnostic utilities that provide operations teams with deep visibility into fleet health and resource utilization metrics.
Collaborate with computer vision engineers to streamline the flow of image data and reduce processing latency in perception pipelines.
Implement automated testing frameworks that increase the reliability of deployments and reduce the risk of regressions in production.
Analyze telemetry data to identify patterns that inform future enhancements to the fleet management and execution workflows.
Champion the adoption of infrastructure-as-code practices to ensure consistency across development, staging, and production environments.
Translate complex robotic operational constraints into software requirements that guide the development of new features.
Participate in on-call rotations to provide rapid response to critical system issues affecting global logistics operations.
Mentor cross-functional partners by conducting in-depth technical reviews that clarify system behavior and uncover optimization opportunities.
Drive the definition of technical standards that ensure code quality remains exceptional as the engineering organization scales.
Requirements
You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
You must possess a minimum of eight years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale distributed systems.
You must be fluent in English, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with our international teams.
You must have extensive experience with containerization technologies, particularly Docker, and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
You must have a strong proficiency in at least one statically typed systems programming language, such as Go or Rust, demonstrated by production-level code.
You must have a deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, HTTP/2, and WebSockets, as they apply to real-time control systems.
You must have hands-on experience with relational databases and distributed data stores, optimizing queries and schema design for high concurrency.
You must have a history of working with event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka or similar streaming platforms.
Nice to have
Experience contributing to open source projects that involve low-level systems programming or networking.
Familiarity with robotics middleware such as ROS or ROS2 and the challenges of integrating with heterogeneous robot fleets.
Knowledge of industrial automation protocols and standards, including but not limited to OPC UA.
Experience with simulation frameworks used for testing autonomous systems in virtual environments.
Practical notes
The role is based in Tokyo, Japan, at our headquarters location (MJHQ).
This is a full-time position conducted in English.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Japan without sponsorship.
Relocation support is not available for this position.
Travel requirements are limited to within the Tokyo metropolitan area.
